I know, but at the end is impossible to wear all of them at the same time to have the whole experience, they all excel in some areas and not so much in others, the right balance of clarity, detail and āfunā is the perfect mix.
I have both the Ananda and the Elears but not the Clears, I honestly thought about trading up to the Clears as there is an open box pair but want to keep the punch in the low end from the Elearāsā¦so I canāt tell you which is better between those two but If I had to choose one headphone between the Elear and Anandaās it would be the Anandaās for sure.
Iāve only briefly listened to the Anandaā¦Iām not a fan of the brand so Iām not the best source to form an opinion on themā¦ @Resolve review would be a good start
That doesnāt mean I think they are bad by any means, I think they sound great.
in the past buildquality, heritage, service, available parts and comfort / design did make a difference after the sound
in my decision if I purchase something or wait/research for something else along the way
If I have mixed feelings about spending my hard earned fun budgetsā¦
and we are back to sanity
I can stand it, if I know there is something better
I am ok with good enough for me up to a point
Leave space to evolve maybe later
I stay in my budget and stay informed as good as I can
Jupiter Audio Research JAR650: this heavily modified HD650 succeeds in every way. I liked the stock HD650, but this takes it several levels straight up.
Marantz MPH-2: This is one of 5-6 clones of the MDH 9000, and IMO itās the best inexpensive Chinese design out there (I own 4 pairs of the clones; kept this one, gave away the other 3)
ZMF Eikon (padauk): prettiest wood ever + impressive sound. Will sell these in 2-3 months because closed backs, particularly those w/relatively neutral voicing, really ding my tinnitus
LCD-2.1 pre-fazor (the āunicornā): love this sound which combines good resolution, strong bass, and excellent overall listenability. Putting on an aftermarket LCD carbon-fiber headband almost completely corrected the comfort issues (which were pretty stark w/the stock headband. Will sell this one in 2-3 monthsā¦itās just not getting much headtime lately
Audiquest Nighthawk Carbon: bought it 2-3 months ago, burned it in, then was unimpressed. Might have 10 hrs head-time total. Will sell in 2-3 months.
The headphone I have to own: ZMF Aeolus. Iāve now heard all 6 ZMF dynamics, 5 IMS for fairly long periods. The VO & VC impress me greatly, but the Aeolus is the single best all-rounder Iāve ever heard. + the sound can be significantly altered using different pads.
I have Senn, HD800ās, HD700ās, HD660ās, HD650ās, Grado RS-1ās, Allesandro MS-2ās. Klipsch Over the ear reference bluetooth, X-12 bluetooth, Bose soundwear. The Senns are all cabled up and some tweeked up with custom pigtail. From years and years being in the hobby going to a lot of meets.
Iām in my 3rd long-term loan of a friendās Aeolus:
1st time it had on stock pads (Universe?). Sound was OK but not really special.
2nd time it had on Verite padsāand IMO the sound was dramatically improvedā¦so much so that I fell in love w/this HP and began scheming to get one
3rd time (starting last week) the Aeolus had on the suede universe pads. And damned if the sound isnāt even better than w/Verite pads (something I would have thought impossible). These are now my favorite headphones. I have a buyer for both kidneys, and Iām going for it!
HD 595- first headphone, so Iām keeping them just for the memories.
HD 580 - decent reference for timbre, + itās always interesting to have something older than you.
HD 800- Basically the bigger/upgraded version of the HD 595, I probably will keep it as itās a classic.
Iām currently looking for an IEM and a pretty dynamic, bassy headphone to cover my other spots. I have other headphones but I probably will sell the others sitting around in my house.
