Best,
ha, yeah, i’ve tried a ton of different bags, and for travel theirs is the best - might not be the best style, but I only care about that for the first 20 minutes.
The other go-to bag I use is the Mission Workshop Rambler - nice and thin and expands massive - great for urban travel.
Otherwise the Bihn Synapse 25 or Pilot is great for EDC
Has anyone checked out the new Grado wireless headphones yet? The GW100. I am curious if they have the usual Grado sound or if they have modified it a little bit to be a little more modern.

Looks very interesting but I’ll wait on this. I’m concerned about the weight and stability and cosmetics of these “hearing aids”…and generally prefer a behind the neck cable for Bluetooth, as it’s too easy to lose/drop one side.
I picked one up to try it out. Will be using it with CIEMs so I doubt i’ll have falling out issues but will try with universals too.
Hello there . How loud are the Senns …I was told they re not that very loud for listening edm…
I can’t say I’ve noticed any issues. Even on noisy flights the music is loud enough for me personally. I guess ultimately it depends on how loud you actually want to listen to your music (without permanently damaging your hearing!).
You definitely notice an improvement in sound-stage when using them corded through an amp though, the ANC has that typical “muddy” sort of effect on them and quietens them a little.
Maybe go to a store and try a pair out (if possible)?
Here’s my quick 15 min impression of the TRN BT20 bluetooth IEM adapters that make any detachable IEM completely wireless.
TRN BT20
No instructions in the box!
The charging cable splits off into two microusb heads for charging each side at the same time. Pretty nice. Wish it would have some sort of dock though.
Pairing - turn both on and they automatically paired to each other. One side will remain in pairing mode and that’ll pair with your device. Device is “TRN”
Looks like AAC is available for higher quality BT. No AptX or LDAC though. I am using AAC streaming from my phone.
I have the 2-pin version hooked up to my Unique Melody ME1 CIEMs and it works fine. Fits great. No floppiness, and doesnt feel like its there. Lightweight enough. Bare in mind, the ME1 is a heavy IEM and it doesnt feel like any additional weight. I’ll have to try it later with a really light IEM like the P4 Pro with the mmcx version I have, or the KZ ZSN.
Sound quality, works fine. Not as good as LDAC which is what I’ve been used to lately for BT but its not bad at all. I rate AAC just barely behind AptX HD and above AptX but not on par with LDAC.
Range is quite good for bluetooth! I put the phone in bedroom in one corner of my tri-level house and walked downstairs to the home theater room corner and still had clean signal. Walked outside and lost a little bit though. Still better than any BT device I’ve had so far.
Ok that’s it for now. This was my 15 minute test.
Wireless is great when wires can get in the way, and very convenient. Love my Senn Momentum 2.0 wireless (that can also be used wired) for travelling (which are also noise cancelling).
I use my Bose QC35’s every day working in the shop. They sound pretty good. They don’t compare to my Hifiman 4xx’s and Schiit Magni amp but I can still have decent sound while using a grinder, mowing the grass, and even running a chainsaw. I think bluetooth is just getting better all the time but wired is still the best. Wireless is really convenient though.
I guess I am just old school, wherever I can run a wire I will. I prefer wired networks, wired speakers, wired headphones, hell I’d even go back to the old wired rotary phones if possible, at least I used to get some free time
Having said that, my JBL Charge 3’s do get a lot of use, mainly in the shower and the bath!
Always Yay! Been using Sony WH-1000XM3 for a while now and love everything about it. No complaints.
I’ve just managed to lose my second pair of bluetooth headphones in as many months (Jabra 65t Active, Jaybird X3s). So I was a yay, but at this point i’m thinking that I may have to attach them to my jacket with yarn, which kind of defeats the point.
Interesting to see the poll so close. I remember Hifiman posted on facebook, asking if people wanted to see bluetooth products from them. It was a resounding “NO” from the chorus. A couple months later, the BT Ananda show up, and the wireless speaker. Go figure.
I still think the Ananda is a very odd entry-point for them in the wireless world. And I still cannot determine if they allow direct, passive, drive from a normal DAC/amp chain.
Still, Fang never seems to be one to let the customer base have a say … so it’s not entirely surprising.
I tried to get his attention at CanJam @ RMAF 2018, in reference to the Jade II sounding so thoroughly AWFUL, but he was too busy chatting with his booth-bro to pay any attention to those listening at the time (maybe he/they were more attentive earlier in the day).
Reading a bit more about the Jade II since then, principally from the well-respected bastion of electrostatic-fandom/knowledge at Head Case, its possible the pair I heard were broken … but alas my attempts to confirm that were fruitless.
there was an overly dramatic youtuber that said it tried to kill him lol…some sort of shock or earpain that gave him the wobbles…
Looks like he took it down…but the reddit page is still up lol: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/atyct9/hifiman_jade_2_are_dangerous/
It’s definitely an interesting entrant into the market. The Grado GW100 was launched back in August and hasn’t exactly taken the world by storm. Of course, two different brands and two different sounds but both are open-back wireless headphones.
With Audeze’s iSines, the concept kind of made sense to me (even now that they have a bluetooth cable) as they are in-ear and smaller and still have some isolation but the market for an open-back, wireless headphone seems incredibly niche, especially an open-back in the 1k price range. I could see if they were going to test the market with the Sundara but as @Torq said, it’s a very weird entry point into the wireless market.
I sort of stumbled upon the Sony WH-H900N recently and am enjoying it tremendously. I started a new job and it’s one of those (dumb) tech company open office layouts where my desk is small and adjacent to everyone else without any cubicle walls. Anyway, long story short, I decided that the Focal Elegia looked quite big and bulky in a confined space and I rather not leave it out in this type of arrangement though I do trust everyone on my team.
Anyway, I went looking for another closed back over-ear and decided I might as well take a look at the ANC ones. I was basically going to end up with the Bose QC35 II or the Sony WH-1000XM3 but I started to look at Costco and they offered the Sony WH-H900N as well. Looking at the Rtings measurements, I was actually quite surprised at how neutral the curve was – especially since I found both the higher tier Bose and Sony 1000 to be a tad bassy and muddy. Even more impressive is that the H900N (H.ear On 2) has pretty much the same exact feature set as the flagship model.
The key differences, besides appearance, seem to be the amount of noise reduction, which is definitely noticeable, the extra hinge for folding up more compact, and the amount of bass. I actually think the WH-1000XM3’s noise cancelling is almost too much, as it does weird things to my ears when I tried them on, and the amount of “suck” was annoying just from putting them on without ANC on. I think this is perhaps why the ANC is better on them vs the 900N.
In actual listen, I am finding the 900N to be very pleasant and balanced. There’s good soundstage width and detailed enough to make me pretty satisfied. I am pretty surprised that this sound signature isn’t on their premium model and vice-versa to be honest. The bass amount of the 1000X is just too much in my opinion, and I know Sony advertises that you can tweak it to your heart’s content with their App, but their app is super limited! You can only EQ using the lowest quality SBC bluetooth codec option, which is like counter-intuitive in my opinion. In fact, most of the app functionality is disabled when using LDAC or Apt-X modes – so essentially, it’s pointless for me – which brings me back to the importance of having a good balanced sound profile that suits my preferences.
Anyway, long story short, I like the Sony WH-H900N H.ear On 2. It’s nice. Fits well. Sounds good. Cancels noise. Portable and fashionable.
