ZMF Atrium

Now THIS is the kind of review that sells headphones! When an audiophile is basically at a recognized end-game level with current set-up, that indeed speaks volumes about the Atrium. Pretty much caps off and summarizes all the many reviews about the Atrium. Thanks for posting this. Super reassuring with regard to purchasing with no audition sight un-seen.

If you want to know about their events and special offerings you want to sign up for their email list. Then you’ll get a heads up on what’s coming, pricing, and when the event goes live for particular headphones. They usually do sell out quickly, so it’s worth knowing about… :+1:

Man those summer cup colors are so incredible! I’m jealous but still very happy with my Aged Copper Atrium! How happy? Well, here is my experience with it so far on my channel:

Side note: it was extremely difficult to do but I didn’t read a thing or watch a single video until I was done with my Atrium impression. I just did not want to be tainted on my experience. I didn’t even listen to one at canjam! Now…finally…I can go enjoy everyones pictures and impressions

/drool ha! That is an incredible color choice! I know they look even better in person, but very nice shots of that!

Hey @skeeb23, welcome to club Atrium! Glad you are liking them. I have the same cherry/copper ones you do, and I agree the mids are fantastic! One of the 1st things that hit me with them.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on your summary of the bass. I think they have plenty of low end, along with rumble and slam, which I noticed right away. They have improved over time as well with burn in.

The gear you’re using may also affect perception of low end. I started out with Bifrost 2/Jot 2, and am now using Yggy OG/Burson Soloist 3X GT primarily. I still do have Jot 2 hooked up (which is a great amp @ $400) and a Valhalla 2 for good measure.

The point of me mentioning this is that the Atrium “scales” well. I’ve found the better the gear, the better it sounds, but ymmv.

Anyway enjoy them!

This is very good to hear…or see ha. That is why I can’t wait to try it on the BHC and give it more time for burn in.

Also that is why so much of this is subjective. Perhaps a bit more time and wear in on the pads and I’ll start to get more low end. It’s definitely not non-existent. I really want my next upgrade to be the BF2 and see if that also gives me a bit more oomph.

Still, yes, I love the Atriums!

I received my Atrium from the HCS event a bit over a week ago, but as I’ve been as a sick as a parrot* , so I wasn’t able to listen to them properly until this weekend.

The more observant of you will notice that they don’t look at all like my original selection**, as these are in stablized/resin with untreated copper grilles/rods and an “Ultra Blue” chassis (better pictures when the light outdoors allows; glare is a swine on polished/gloss finishes):

Holy slam, thwack and twang … combined with superb timbre!

All my favorite traits of bio-cellulose drivers, including the ultra lucid, liquid, midrange, that just draws you in, bathes you in music, and doesn’t let go.

These are a fitting co-flagship to the Vérité, maybe trading a hair of resolution and “speed”, for improved timbre and a slightly more neutral delivery (pads will shift both models a bit in either direction, of course). These have a lot of the bass-qualities of the Eikon, without that unit’s bass-lift; so they’re equally seductive and engaging but less relentless with bass-driven tracks.

Very impressive.

All listening on 300Bs so far, on the Lo-Z cathode outputs, and about to switch to Hi-Z and see what that does to things …

*Not your normal, “squawks a bit funny”, sick-parrot; more the parrot that’s “coming off a major cuttlefish-and-rotting-fruit bender after partying with some particularly wayward cockatoo”.
**A long, and not very interesting, story - but one that speaks very well of Zach and ZMF.

What is your impression of the Atrium? Enjoyed your reviews, just wondering about a quick word on these with a brief note on audio chain ahead of the headphone… Cheers!

Absolutely loving these things …

They were fantastic from the Lo-Z configuration of my WA234MKII, but they’re even better in Hi-Z output configuration. A richer, deeper, more solid foundation (which was already pretty bloody solid).

If you have an amplifier that lets you play with the output impedance/impedance matching, give the Atrium a try on one of the higher OI settings. Normally I prefer the additional grip from a higher damping factor (lower OI vs. the can’s impedance), but the Atrium does very special things at higher OI too …

May have to throw these things on both the B&K and GRAS rigs … and put them through the gamut of amp settings.

As long as you’re not an ex parrot…

Glad you’re feeling better

Great to hear! I want to hear an Atrium on my Ampsandsound Forge so badly…

If I had to guess, I’d say Zach almost tunes his headphones with a lower damping factor in mind. I just know how much the Verite Open came alive in a similar way when played out of a high impedance output.

Being sick does dampened the excitement of receiving new gear but glad to know you’re feeling better.

The Atrium is the only headphone I listen to on a regular basis. It just hits so many check boxes that I find myself switching back to the Atrium when I’m on other headphones. It has an amazing synergy with 300b Studio B that makes for a very pleasant and addictive listening that doesn’t wear out even after months of heavy listening.

I ordered the Atrium last night. I’m unfamiliar with ZMF headphones, but read enough recently that I’m super intrigued and thought I had to give it a shot. Now I just have to wait patiently.

I own Atrium, Atticus, and Aleous. For each of them the wait was kinda brutal but so worth it.
I truly doubt you will be disappointed.
Congrats!

I own the Verite, Ori, Blackwood and Atrium. I’ve also owned the Verite Closed. You will not be disappointed. The wait can be slightly frustrating as @Obstacle_of indicted, but oh my, the wait is so worth it!

I will 3rd what @Obstacle_of and @stormcloud64 just said, you will really enjoy them (I hope) :sunglasses:

Atrium, Verite Open, and Aeolus in my lineup… :+1:

Y’all are just making the wait harder

Seriously, they sound interesting and they certainly are beautiful.

I’ve run my Atrium on Hi and Lo-Z outputs, from both the Cathode and Plate taps (both selectable options on the WA234MKII) … and with 300B and 2A3 tubes.

Definite preference for 300B on Hi-Z Cathode output, with 2A3 on the Hi-Z Cathode output a close second. Though depending on your preferences, the 2A3 on the Lo-Z Cathode output is very linear.

You could always wait impatiently.

Many do that; it all seems to work out in the end…
