I went after Eye of the tempest as soon as I could and it was gone within seconds. I thought for sure I had it… Went back and then Stella was gone too.
I’ve never tried to checked out faster in my life. Oh well! It stinks for me but I hope whoever got them enjoys. I’ll get one eventually. I really like the blues, teals, grays, blacks look. I missed out on these and Coltrane too.
I hope whoever got the eye of the tempest puts it up for sale eventually, thats a really beautiful one
I the the three of you might enjoy woodworking as a hobby. The look was seemingly designed through the selective application of stain to a figured piece.
I do, I just don’t have the time I’d like to actually do more projects.
I would wanna try, just seems to be a big learning curve and also I don’t have the tools, so would need to acquire.
But I would die happy if I could make something as beautiful as Zachs headphones.
I don’t have a ton of experience myself, but am confident that I could do it with the right tools. It’s no accident that low volume headphones have circular cups (e.g., Grado, Audeze, ZMF, HiFiMan, etc.), as circles are extremely easy to make on a lathe. There are a bazillion videos on Youtube that illustrate the process.
- Obtain raw wood
- Cut it into a block that’s bigger than the target shape
- Impregnate with colored resin and cure in a vacuum pot
- Attach to a wood lathe and turn to shape. Any company with regular, non-custom products will use a traditional duplication device or CNC instead of manually turning the wood.
- Finish with sandpaper and a grit polish
Fun fact of the day: The English family name “Turner” comes from the lathe operator profession in the middle ages. Oh, the things you learn when seeking new online content during COVID!
Zach, when can we expect to see updates on construction and expected ship dates?
Thanks
You should have received a link from Bevin via email. I’d suggest you reach out to her with your order number. I ordered Aelous Zebra Rarity the first day about an hour into ZMF November. Mine has been shipped and should be here around Christmas.
I got a link to a google doc that showed the order, but not order status.
Is that the same sheet?
Yes. Is your order still on there? Mine was removed at shipping.
They are sharing less information on specifics of the build. Color, etc.
My order is still there
I’m going to have mine within a month. Last year it was around ten weeks. Hopefully yours comes soon.
I have a questions for owners, is there any driver flex when the earcups are compressed onto the head?
No.
I’ve never experienced driver flex with any dynamic headphone. That’s more of a thing with planar cans and IEMs that have dynamic drivers.
Hey Todd - your headphones are being built from scratch so they will take a little longer than the used or b stock sets. The cups are machined and in sanding and finishing.
Were working very hard and thanks everyone for your patience! Don’t worry we’re not traveling or anything this year it’s all headphones all the time!
Thanks! I have heard some driver flex in dynamic headphones though not as commonly as with planars or dynamic IEMs as you mentioned. Just wanted to know if and when I try the Verite Closed.
Just my opinion here… Y’all deserve a break, at least a couple days. Don’t overwork yourself.
I only say that because it doesn’t seem like you ever take days off. LOL
I could be wrong
Thanks Zach.
I just didn’t know if you published a schedule with the build progress or not.
Nonsense
He has hit a point of producing a high performance headphone that has a “keep it for a lifetime” visual appeal. A bespoke handmade version that has people lusting over it.
At $2999, he needs to be pumping these out until people lose interest. Use the funds to prototype the next excellent product.
Imagine a sub $1500 stabilised ZMF…
The market of people with $1500 to spend on a headphone would be tenfold to the market spending $3000.
I’m not sure if your comments were “tongue in cheek” or not, I assume you are, but that misses the mark of a boutique headphone such as this. Small limited runs that people will snatch up as soon as they become available. Some of the sourced parts take up to a year to acquire, not an easy feat during these times. I would agree that ZMF could sell more units by making a lower cost headphone but they seem to not having any problems selling these at 3K a piece. In fact, they probably could have gone higher in price and no one would have blinked before they sold out.
