It is a great match. I do have two pair of 12B4A with adapters. They sound great but with the Kenzie I had, but adding power with VCs was not needed. Maybe with the HE6 or something they would come in handy…I’ll try them in the Ovation when I get it.
For those of you that remove your cables from the cups before storing your VC, do you think there is any chance the connection will weaken over time with all the use?
I keep mine connected to minimize the (risk of) wear and tear from repeated removal/insertion.
I think Zach said it didn’t matter, you could disconnect/reconnect as many times as you wish. You could check with him but I’m sure the failure rate is extremely low with the Audeze style connectors. I would prefer disconnection myself if I was to put them in case as you mention.
Do we know if there will be a Round 3?
Zach knows best. But then is failure measured by “ability to connect” vs sonic impact, if any.
I’ve had to replace the clasp for a stainless steel watch because I went too crazy on opening and closing and the spring wore. Thus, I’m overly careful.
If I were storing them in the case then definitely disconnect, IMO. Pretty tight quarters in there. I dont think repeatedly disconnecting cables will cause too much problem but prolonged stress on a connection might.
I just use a headphone stand mostly and keep things attached; however, if I knew I wasnt going to be using the cans for a while I would store them.
Just got a shipping notification! At first I thought it was my VC but they were the cables and stand I ordered for them… lol
I’m surprised they shipped this early… but still excited nonetheless!
Need some opinions on a headphone stand for my VC. I can’t decide between two options on Etsy. First off, here is a picture of my VC:
Here are my two top choices:
- Olive Ash Burl
- Black-stained oak

Well it seems like there is a clear preference for the olive ash burl. I went ahead and placed the order. The cool thing is that when my VC is on this stand, there will be 3 types of ash wood on display: olive ash burl, Ukrainian ash (inner layer of the stand) and Manchurian ash on my headphones. That’s a lot of ash!
And just to give this guy on Etsy a shout out, he is doing some really beautiful work at very reasonable prices. He is in Ukraine and is open to custom options if you contact him. For example, I’m getting my stand made with extra depth so the wood surface will be wider than the ZMF earpads. His normal depth is 105mm. I looked up the Auteur pad and it is 111mm in diameter, so he is making my stand 115mm to accommodate the larder ZMF pads. I’m very impressed with the guy!
Here’s a link to his shop on Etsy: Borkyworkshop
Wow! Those prices are incredible!! Is it free shipping internationally?
Yes, free shipping from Ukraine to the US! I may not receive the stand until early February, but that’s ok for the price paid!
Dang it @ckhirnigs113 - Now you gonna make me spend more money cause I need that camphor burl stand to match my camphor burl VC’s, lol.
Sorry @galapac! I couldn’t believe there was nothing about this guy’s headphone stands on here or any other forum for that matter.
I prefer the ones that look like one solid piece versus the ones with the gap towards the top of the stand. While conversing with him on Etsy, he said he could make most of his models without the gap if that’s what you prefer.
I would have gone for the elm burl but he couldn’t make that with the extra wide dimensions I wanted.
Update: @galapac Did you buy that last camphor burl stand? I see it says sold out now!
We should make a separate thread for this guys stands. I’m definitely going to buy one soon too. Maybe we can get someone to switch this to it’s own thread? @TylersEclectic
Agreed, sorry for getting off topic. BTW, I just bought the black oak stand too. I couldn’t resist. Now I’ll be able to compare them with my VC in person.
Both of those stands look great.
It’s a shame you have to put the headphones away, because half the fun of having ZMF headphones is staring at them when not in use. But I understand about having kids that don’t respect your things. I have one of those, plus 3 cats, one of whom likes to lick the pads on my Stellia. He steers clear of the ZMFs for some reason, or at least he doesn’t do that when I’m looking at him, because he doesn’t have a death wish. And to be clear, I’m talking about the cat, not my son.
Nope, someone else got (sniped)them. I want mine custom anyways so I emailed him. Will probably hear back tomorrow or after the holiday.
The HE6se function well on the Kenzie. Probably not optimally, but pretty sound is produced.
New VC owner here. What pads do people use for maximum sub bass? I use the Universe lambskin pads for this, but wondering if there are others to consider/try.
