Magnesium is quite noticeably more susceptible to chipping, which is a showstopper for me, irrespective of any weight or aesthetic advantages.
I’ve been super careful with mine but the gimbals just flaked off at the ends nonetheless. The rods would probably chip if I adjusted them often but I don’t and I think the only chipping there is covered by the part the rod goes through.
I haven’t had any chipping on my mag chassis yet, but the weight difference seems so small that in retrospect I wish I had opted for the aluminum so I wouldn’t have to worry about it in the future. It’s like a 30g difference, I think? That’s basically immaterial IMO.
This all validates the way I was looking at it - thanks!
ZMF has paint pens available for touch ups.
First accessory for the Forge amp arrived today… the ZMF Vérité Closed Stabilized. Compared to the RAD-0, they are quite cozy (both in their comfort and their sound). If you look closely, you will see the slightest amount of purple in the wood of the cups. I believe this is what colors the sound.
Looks absolutely stunning!
How long did it take for those stabilized VCs to ship? I’m sitting here waiting for my VCs and hoping they come in before I move states.
I received them 58 days after the order
Dang…I’ve seen lots of ZMF, but that is what I would have chosen. Congrats
How many minutes and seconds?
How long was your wait from order to delivery? I have the very same ones on order. Enjoy!
How do you find they compare with the RAD 0. Was thinking about them before I decided on Leopardwood VC Bstock. Also have Auteur Blackwoods!
Again gorgeous pair of stabilized VC’s,
jgwtriode
I have two VC pairs on different locations, monkeypod and stabilized maple burl, both with universe pads. I have several DACs and amps, of them the best DAC/amp combo match is Spring 2 KTE > Eddie Current Aficionado (Mullard rectifier, WE396A, Linlai E-2A3). This amp combo is if anything even better with Auteur blackwood, which I just got from a previous owner. But that classic amp is not easily found. For solid state, my best experience for VC is the also difficult-to-find ecp DSHA-3F (nickel transformers), and as a strong runner-up the Phonitor XE (just sold mine to a forum member here). If the Spring 3 is anywhere like the Spring 2, it’s a great DAC for ZMF headphones, which take full advantage of the dense tonality and natural transients that the DAC delivers.
Oooh. These are the “Prahnas”! Definitely my favorite from this last batch. Congrats Chris!
Dang, I spent most of this week reading this thread and others trying to understand all the options (pads, rods, suspension strap) before I ordered, but now the Olive Wood LTD is gone.
Sorry @Roark it seems I’ve already let your family down
Can only blame myself for taking my time. I don’t mind the current stock Sapele but was more excited about the variations in the Olive.
I wonder how long until the next LTD or Stabilized.
Probably still worth emailing ZMF directly to see if they have any leftover olivewood or maybe even other rarities!
Fair point, doesn’t hurt to ask. I’ll send over an email.
SnowRang3r, no let down at all and appreciate the consideration.
As someone else suggested, emailing ZMF would be a good idea. Maybe there is a force in the world to united you with the Olive wood @zach915m …
It’s funny, I was going to wait until later in the summer to order my own Olive VCs, and I just thought I’d better grab them while they were available. Who knows when I’ll get them, but I’m in the wood-picking/finishing process. I hope they’re able to accommodate you!
Well thanks @Wenbinbin2010 and @Roark for the encouragement, asking nicely did the trick
Now, we play the waiting game…
