Both are totally plausible haha. I know some people who do have unicorn pairs that measure much better. But it’s weird that for a $4k headphone we have to hope for that. I think Audeze have improved their unit consistency, the question is if that means there are more or fewer unicorns haha.
Also, gotta love how the plugin gives you degrees of ‘wetness’. For non-audiophiles that has to be a weird initiation.
I just came in from the office to see a much-anticipated package UPS had dropped off. I found a clean open box LCD-4 for a fantastic price.
I just started my listening with our new local town hero Gary Clark Jr, and then spinning up our old town hero Stevie Ray Vaughn, Yes he still very strong in our hearts down here in Austin.
This is my first pair of Audeze headphones so I have zero references to any of there past designs. Only Rosson Audio RAD-0 will be my guide on what is different.
I think with this purchase I am done for a while I wait for ZMF Vertie LTD Open backs to be built. With the ZMF, it will finish out my premium tier headphones.
Very nice sir. Good to have another Austin audiophile in here. I have the lcd-3 and love them. Can’t let myself think about lcd-4 or my wallet starts throbbing.
Yes, there was no way I was not going to pay current retail for them, I just have to skip the Valentines dinner at Perry’s Steak house with family this year to cover the delta I paid over full retail of an LCD-3 ; )
Love the big green egg! I have a knock of version! My brother has a pretty dope big green egg setup that he custom built! Mine doesn’t seem to hold heat like his and takes way more maintenance to make sure the meat turns out proper… dang winter needs to go away so I can bbq again! I don’t have a good outdoor setup for winter BBQ just to be clear… and it rains a lot here in the Seattle area lol😢
Edit: here is a collage of my brothers green egg setup
Hey everyone. Does anyone have manual EQ settings for the LCD-4? I won’t be using the Reveal software as I stream from my Auralic Aries G1 which has a built in EQ function. Here is a screenshot showing the parameters that can be adjusted:
I recently picked up a LCD4 a few weeks ago and have been using Roon as well. I tried out the preset and felt there wasn’t much of a difference either aside from a bit more prominent sub-bass.
For my pair I ended up taking the AutoEq results from the LCD-MX4 which I had previously and left 1khz and up pretty much untouched and then tweaked the rest to my preference. I was blown away from the sub-bass extension even compared to the MX4.
After using both, the MX4 felt slightly more punchy/aggressive but not as smooth or natural of delivery that the LCD4 is capable of.
There may be an update to the Reveal+ presets that hasn’t been factored into Roon yet. I’m not entirely sure where they’re at with that - but it may be worth playing around with Reveal+ in EQ APO manually instead. Also, there’s definitely some variation when it comes to the LCD4s, so I can see why they may want to be a bit conservative with the preset. You wouldn’t want a positive adjustment for one to make things worse or go too far for another one.
Audeze has been unable to secure most of the parts for the LCD-4 (wood, screws, etc…) for most of COVID. We’ve been sold out for about 7 months now. There was a couple exlusive woods that lasted about 3 weeks.
Not sure if you could chalk it up to a new model or just supply constraints though.
