Great review!
And the one HP I currently have on my watch/desire/must-have list. So very appriciated

Thanks for checking it out, I hope that it was helpful! It definitely is a headphone worth looking at, I really enjoy it, and recommend it!
I have the DT1990 so the comparison between the two was very useful, but also makes it hard to justify getting the LCD-GX.
But it is still on my list…
Howdy y’all,
When A/B-ing my GX I noticed a channel imbalance. Essentially starting from zero and slowly dialing it up, no audio comes from the left driver, until about 8 o’clock. I’ve tried different cables. I also tried my DT 990s on the same amp. The amp is a Schiit Heresy. Thoughts or things I can try?
Most amplifiers with standard potentiometer volume controls will have an imbalance at low volumes (sometimes quite severe). If you have a digital volume control on your source (e.g. Windows volume control), try setting the amp to a higher volume like 12 o’clock and reducing the digital volume control. I suspect that will confirm the imbalance is in your amp.
Like I said, that’s pretty normal, unless you get an amp with a stepped attenuator, which is very expensive. If you need lower volumes, set your amp to low gain, and reduce your digital volume.
Well, file this under TIL. Curious why it didn’t exhibit the same behavior for the DT 990. Regardless, past the 8-9 mark I couldn’t hear an imbalance. Thank you for the lesson!
Just received my LCD-GX headset and Schiit Hel… This is my first venture into “audiophile” land, so I am a complete noob at this. I’ve seen in posts settings for EQ like the following:
Peak at 30hz, +1dB Q of 1
Low Shelf at 100hz, +2dB Q of 0.7
Peak at 2500hz, +2dB Q of 1.41
Peak at 4500hz, +3dB Q of 2
I’m not sure what that exactly means… Q of 2, etc. Is there any place to learn about this?? I was told prior to purchasing the LCD-GX, I need to install both “Equalizer APO and Peace UI”. Does that mix well with “gaming” and “music”? Basically any guidance for starting down EQ path with these headphones, or should I just enjoy them w/o any EQ tweaking?? Thanks for time.
I think before you start diving down the EQ rabbit hole… pause… sit back and enjoy your new gear =) then after acclimating to it and learning what it is doing… you can start to determine where you would like to see some EQ applied if at all =)
This thread is a good spot to learn some info about EQ: The Miracle of EQ, or "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love my LCD2C Again"
there are a bunch of EQ topics on the forum =) just take your time EQ isn’t for everyone.
Thanks for the link to the LCD2C EQ thread, somehow I’d missed it. It’s excellent, @pwjazz did a fantastic job experimenting and describing and explaining his findings. Is it weird to like posts that are years old?!
And, yes, I totally agree about taking the time to acclimatize, that’s great advice.
Not at all weird to like posts that are years old. Happens all the time. It’s nice to know that one of your posts has aged well. When you like a post, the author gets a
notice. Sometimes it makes us look at where we were and comment on if we still think that way, or if we now think we were total idiots.

Personally, I don’t worry too much about being a total idiot.
Thanks for the response! I appreciate your link. One last question, I’ve been reading about LOW vs High gain… since the Audeze LCD-GX has low impedance, I am currently using Low gain on my Schiit Hel…this has me putting the amp at 12 oclock and Windows around 60 something. My question is some folks on the web swear by High gain for the LCD-GX and Hel…what do you think? I tried it just for “fun” and I couldn’t stand to push Windows 10 volume past 30 with Hel staying at 12 oclock. Does High gain damage low impedance headphones? Thanks for you help and time!
Keep Window’s volume to 100 and just adjust with your amp.
It’s also fine to use high gain.
First, what @PForPho said, keep windows volume at 100 and do all your volume control from your Schiit Hel…
as far as low vs high gain… play with it and determine which “you” like better… Audeze/planars can be pretty power hungry and “can” get benefits from using high gain. But, ultimately your ears will tell you what you like
Thanks for the advice guys. I will do all the volume control from now on with the Hel. As for high/low gain, I am still having trouble hearing the difference other than volume level. What do you personally use with the LCD-GX?
Back to EQ…I noticed that in Windows 10, under Sound, I don’t have a Treble/Bass option with the DAC. Prior to using my new gear, I had my old headpones (Sennheiser PC360) plugged into my old Soundblaster Audigy 5/RX card and had the treble/bass option… now with the Hel taking the place of that, the Trebel/Bass tab is missing. Is there an addon I need or something else? Is this normal behavior for the Hel? One of my friends told me to get something called “Boom 3d” but I’ve never heard of that, just Equalizer APO. Basically I love the sound of my LCD-GX w/o EQ but I do think a tweak to bass would “help”. My test track I am using is RHCP’s “Dark Necessities” which sounds “OK” on the LCD-GX but some bass sounds a little wrong/off. Even listening to Ghost’s “Square Hammer” sounds extremely clear but bass is not as pronounced as on my old PC360s. Any advice? Thanks again for entertaining my OCD-like questions.
For software EQ, Equalizer APO is pretty good… I’m not real big on EQ so I can’t overly help in this regard… but another option is getting a physical Equalizer like the Schiit Loki…
High and Low gain with the HEL is just going to come down to preference… go with what sounds right to you…
Tyler!
With bundles more headphone experience since you first had these. How would you describe them now?
Well I recently sold my pair to @corgifall
But, they are my favorite Audeze outside of the 3/4 lol
I found the LCD-3 a bit too smooth/laid back overall. But otherwise enjoyable.
How do these compare?
Weight is a big plus on these.
And why did you sell them?!
And I guess. GX vs DCA Aeon 2? Feeling like a open planar, more warm/laid back over nuetral/bright.
I would say it is in line with the LCD-3 but not as technical/slammy if that makes sense.
I sold them because I didn’t use them very much =) I’m trying to distill my collection down to most used gear and gear on demo ha… limits some of my comparisons but what are you gonna do ha!
Well, I’m vaccinated now, so I’m starting to venture out. ![]()

Just popped in to see if anyone had compared GX to other stuff in the LCD line. I have been using GX as my primary headset for casual gaming on XBox. It will run straight out of a controller just fine, with one odd caveat–if I’m not playing a game, then the controller tends to pop and lose all audio output until you recycle power on the controller. If I’m in a game, though, I can chat away for hours.
It’s clearly some kind of bug, but there aren’t enough of us “gamer-audiophiles” (especially on console) to have a prayed of getting anything fixed. I’m sure they’d be happy to refer me to some officially licensed garbage, just like I’m happy to use Discord instead of Live chats.
