I’ve owned my Mojo from just a few months after it’s original release, and although I was impressed right from the start, it took a few things to fall into place before I really fell in love.
Initially I was using it with a pair of Sennheiser HD800. As much as I still respect these headphones, unfortunately they just didn’t work very well with the Mojo, I just didn’t realise it initially.
For me the alignment of the planets came when I bought a pair of Audeze LCD2 Closed Back, a Chord Poly to pair with the Mojo, and started using Roon to manage my music.
Honestly I find the combo of Roon>Mojo>Poly>LCD-CB endlessly rewarding and I have listened to more music since discovering this recipe, than I have in years.
The only operational comment I will make about the Mojo/Poly combo is that if heat management.
Like many I put mine straight into the dedicated case for safe keeping, but unfortunately I think this may be part of the problem. In that case the combo gets really quite hot, out of it, barely warm to the touch. And this could be my imagination, but since I started using it ‘naked’, I seem to have noticed a significant reduction in connectivity ‘glitches’, either via WiFi or AirPlay. Given the case is only plastic, I can only assume that it was heat buildup that was making the difference.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that this combo is the one which seems to have cured my constant itching for something new.
Thanks for the great impressions. The first time I heard the LCD2-Classic at CanJam, Audeze had it paired with a Mojo. The combination sounded great - fun and impactful but nicely dark and non-fatiguing.
I’ve not been entirely happy with my setup with the LCD2-Classic since I got them just over a year ago and I find myself thinking back to that original pairing…
I have the option to buy Chord Mojo & poly together for $500 (2nd hand of course) and also fiio Q5s for $250 (also 2nd hand).
I want this to be my “transportable” setup (something I take to work and set on my desk and move room to room at my house) my main headphone is a Beyerdynamic DT1770 which I love. Will add Sennheiser HD660s shortly and go up from there.
This for now will act as my main amp and Dac
I’m worried about the battery life of chord and the connectivity issues and wondering if I’d be better off saving $250 and go with Q5s
I’ve been using the Chord Mojo with my HD 650’s and Tidal masters subscription for over a year having the mojo set to 32bit 384000 hz in the Windows sound settings so the light was purple as it should be on that bitrate. But just today I found on the internet that I should have the mojo set to “Use exclusive mode” and “Force volume” in Tidal settings. I ticked them both and now the light on the mojo is red (44khz) when playing hifi songs as it apparently should be but I have the orange light (48khz) on master versions. It could also be yellow (88khz) but it sure looks orange on the dac… Eather way, shouldn’t the master songs play on green light (96khz) anyway? And fyi I have good hearing but I cannot find a difference between using 384 khz, 44 khz or 88 khz. I guess I’m just looking for a peace of mind knowing that my settings are the best possible and I’m not missing out.
Exclusive mode allows Tidal to set the dac to match the format of the track being played. You are probably seeing the correct behavior now.
Previously Windows was converting everything to the 32/38400 setting regardless of the format of the track which was why the light was always the same.
Having the dac match the track is generally the preferred way to have things set up.
Was toying with getting one and it’s unavailable (or priced way over list) everywhere. Any intel on whether it’s being phased out or just another chip-shortage casualty?
And while I have Chord people reading this - anyone compare SQ on the Mojo vs. a standalone DAP like the A&K S25? I have the A&K, and it has so many advantages, but a fairly un-punchy bass, and I’m wondering if I might do better harnessing my phone w/the Mojo.
pretty affordable used, I picked up a mojo/poly for 700 a couple weeks ago.
Many think they are getting refreshed, it seemed like last year, then covid hit, but I’d not be surprised to see an announcement at CanJam given the clearance.
I recently snagged a Mojo to use on my pc. I made sure to install the necessary drivers as well as change audio settings (make it my default audio device, enabled the additional frequencies, etc). It works perfectly, except when I try to listen to music on Sound cloud. For some reason no audio is produced what so ever no matter what track I select. Any tips or info on why this is happening?
In case you missed it, check out this review of the Chord Mojo 2 and give a warm welcome to the newest member of The HEADPHONE Show team, @GoldenSound !
What a great addition to see @GoldenSound join the team here! So excited to see the growth of Headphones.com and the recognition from so many audiophiles in the community that this is the place for strong technical reviews and discussions, while maintaining a welcoming community that supports newcomers (like me a few months ago) and grizzled veterans as equals. Keep up the great work guys!
Soon to be owner of a mojo 2 (friend let it slip I will be getting one for crimus)
She owns a mojo 2 herself and also tried a poly, only to be disappointed. I saw someone made a mojo “docking station” housing a pi/SBC running rune audio OS.
Wanted to build her something like this as a thank you for the insane gift. Only to see that rune seems abandoned at this point.
Does anyone know of alternatives with support for the mojo?
I’m using the xduo X10Tii digital turntable as digital source for all of my dac/amps, but its especially nice for the mojo because it comes with what appear to be pretty high quality short cables for connection to various dacs including usb, coax, toslink (though the mojo’s optical in is full size and the xduo’s toslink cable is a 3.5 mm), and even aes if one’s dac has such a connection. A simple device with no dac, amp, streaming capabilities, or touchscreen. Just a clean digital signal for your dac from your local library. Very compact and long battery life too. Some 3m duolock between them makes a compelling portable device sq wise.
Interesting device! Might consider that for a different use case with the mojo.
Realized I phrased my question to ambiguous and it lead to a misunderstanding. Still appreciate your answer tho! Thanks a lot.
What I was asking was, if there are other media centric Linux systems like Rune Audio OS, that I could be using for this project instead, that support the mojo
I’m sorry, i did misunderstand. I’m old, so i just took the easy way out and bought a node 2i to avoid pc/rpi sources and not to have to deal with software issues. The node is sufficient for me both in terms of software and sq. I may still not understand, as i would think any playback software, based on any platform would support using the mojo 2 as dac. Good luck.
