Current Set-Up Pics - Official Picture Thread

Can we see the drawer with the tips in the picture? The one you mentioned last Saturday?

Hell, headphone audio is relatively inexpensive when you compare it to 2-channel speaker hi-fi, so it’s all relative.

$3000-4000 buys you a TOTL headphone, but that’s like the low end of Mid-Fi speakers, which I think goes to $10,000.

That looks like a great space. Beautiful room. Lovely furniture.

What sub you got under the desk? Yes, I can see you there (I think)!

It’s the little Genelec 7040a. It has more than enough power and extension for my small room. Turns out my calibrated mic has failed so I am going to go by ear and a crappy phone measurement app until they replace it for me. It has been a while since I have worked with a sub. I have forgotten how touchy integration is.

I have also tried the RME ADI2 DAC, and I found that it’s smoother than the Qutest, but at the cost of what I feel is oversmoothing, so micro texture are glossed over compared to the Qutest

Eh not the best photo but the box has a bunch of tips in several containers and the gray case has a lot more. I also have a bunch of Zmf pads in that shelf that extend back further and more pads and tips in the garage

Oh yes, thanks everyone. I am in isolation and doing well. Glad to have my collection back to its usual state. I feel blessed everytime I get to hear great music on gear. I just think of all the folk who don’t have access to the things we have in the western world who have to muddle through with $2 earbuds and count myself so lucky. Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe and stay well. Happy listening.

I received my Abyss Diana v2 (black onyx color) today, and it is quite amazing. I used to have the Diana Phi, so I can tell the difference between v2 and the Phi quite clearly.

Diana v2 is gentler, warmer, more forgiving and musical without sounding dull. The loss of resolution is there, but well compensated by musicality. There are crappy tracks in my library that sound kinda terrible on the Phi but awesome again on v2.

Diana v2 is the perfect companion for the Phi TC. I sold the Diana Phi because its signature is too close to Phi TC but couldn’t do as well, so every time I listened to Diana Phi I was reminded of how much better TC is. I don’t have that problem with Diana v2.

I can’t get enough of the Bottlehead Crack w/ Speedball & ZMF Aeolus pairing. Humble Modi 3 as a DAC, Oidio Mongrel copper cable, and Spotify for discovery & background listening or Qobuz for when music becomes the primary activity. Right now I’m using the Universe Hybrid perforated pads which have a nice ā€œbest of both worldsā€ between the suede and the stock Aeolus pads.

With the extended work from home period, I’ve been enjoying rolling through as many different combinations of tubes as possible. My two favorite power tubes have been the WE 421a and Bendix 6080WB. Two favorite driver tubes have been the Sylvania 5814a triple mica and Amperex 7316 long plate foil D getter. Next, I’ll experiment with the suede and stock pads and roll through all my tubes again. I’m amazed at how much pad rolling changes the sound of the Aeolus. Between pad rolling and tube rolling, the number of combinations are endless.

En route I have:

IK Multimedia MTM DSP Monitors
ZMF suede comfort strap to retrofit to Verite
ZMF Universe Perf Hybrid for Verite
One off Tube amp from a local builder

Will take a snap when all set up.

Never thought I would enjoy a Sabre DAC but Matrix X Sabre Pro is pretty impressive. XSP + Black Widow really sings! I’m debating whether to keep the Bifrost 2 or this. Audio Zenith PMx2 is on a loaner from a friend.

  1. Pi2AES (BNC) > Bifrost 2 > Shortest Way 51+ > JAR650 | Borealis
  2. Pi2AES (AES) > Matrix X Sabre Pro MQA > Black Widow > Borealis | Audio Zenith PMx2

That’s a nice looking setup!

Man every time I see a Bifrost 2 I want it even more… supposedly you hear the biggest difference in DACs once you get to the Bifrost 2 range.

Hopefully I get to hear it one day
