I’d be interested in your thoughts on the Burson Soloist 3X GT in general, and especially with your ZMFs. I also have Atrium and Verite, and include an Aeolus as well!
Beautiful setup, much appreciated ![]()

hi guys. I have some old and cheap headphones I bought 7 years ago from Big Lots. the audio jack isn’t good anymore (have to bend the jack a bit to get sound on both sides). the people at the repair shop said I need to buy new headphones and there’s no way to fix them since the cable is attached to it.
bought them for about $15 but I really like the sound quality. Even $50 headphones aren’t as good as these. looks totally amateurish and I know there are “better” headphones out them, but nothing else sounds good to me. I want to buy these again but the problem is I have no idea what company made these.
can anyone please help me identify the brand, model, etc. of these headphones?
I found this product at a Russian site using Yandex.com (reverse image search). I don’t speak Russian. I’m just curious about finding products, and know nothing about this one.
I think you are chasing after a very old discontinued product. Odds are it was made in China on one of their general production lines ~10 years ago. It looks to be derived from the Beats aesthetic of that period. If you tell us what sound profile you are after, what you like, what you don’t like, etc. we may be able to help.
thanks for searching. is there a way to figure out the sound profile of my headphones? there were some sony headphones I bought for around $50 from best buy but the bass wasn’t so good. it sounded a bit clear but “empty”. I’m new to all this so I can’t give specifics, but the few headphones I bought usually left out a lot of sounds from the songs I like (especially the bass). is there any good software to check the sound profile?
Your headphones are really, really obscure and I doubt you’ll be able to find out much this long after they were released.
The best way would be for you to directly compare to various brands. Beats is famous for pushing the bass hard, and frankly pushing a lot harder than most people on this forum ever choose to go. Your headphones also appear to seal in the sound (closed cups), so they may just fit your ear and head shape better than the others you’ve tried. All of us have to try for ourselves to get a good headphone model that fits.
Finally, some of us use an equalizer to boost the bass, cut the treble, or otherwise change the sound. This can be done through some software, or through a separate device.
Rtings.com has sound profile charts for a lot of headphones. Plus comments and reviews.
The people at the repair shop are lazy and don’t feel like doing soldering on the small connector in the jack. If the problem is at the jack, you can get a new jack for a few bucks on Amazon, and a low power soldering iron plus some electric solder and do it yourself. Or find a different repair place. Shouldn’t cost more than $25 or so especially if you have a jack. Looks like a TRRS mini (3.5mm) Amphenol is an OK replacement brand. There are plenty of others.
You will need to cut off the jack, remove some of the black plastic and solder. The most likely wiring colors and diagram are here (look down for TRRS):
That, or they know what their time is worth, and what they have to charge to break even, and it’s likely to be more than the headphones cost new, let alone what a “reasonable” repair would cost.
And they know that the second they touch it, any future issues will be on them.
Case in point … just one of the necessary tools is more than the headphones are worth new. You still need wire strippers, solder, heat-shrink or tape, a meter/continuity tester, the connector, and the time to do it.
I get LOTS of requests to fix/re-terminate other people’s/manufacturers cables. It’s a losing proposition 100% of the time.
In recently swapping my PortaPro 3.5mm jack for a Hart compatible mini XLR. Yep. Sigh. It takes a lot of fiddling about, getting L/R channels correct, and assembling tiny little parts. Clumsy me required an hour from start to finish. Also, the wires in this price class aren’t meant for rework or upgrades. A pro shop would have to charge $50+. That’s far more than they are worth.
Probably he should just buy some Porta-Pros and Yaxi pads and move on. I suspect it would sound better but if he’s in love with that particular old headphone then diy is probably the way to go.
Not shown here are my headphones collections which include 58X/6XX/600/r70x/Sundara. Unfortunately even Sundara is too heavy for my weak neck so I am not able to upgrade headphones beyond these. I have instead been rolling different DAC/amplifiers. When I got into this hobby I started with Fiio K5 Pro, Topping L30/E30 and Darkvoice (not shown in pics) and now I have moved onto Asgard 3, Vali 2+, LP G111, Eufonika H5. My DAC is Ares2 which I really love. I’d love to try out some more before I settle on a couple that I really like. But for headphones… I have decided that Koss ESP950 would stay as the most detailed headphones for me for a long time to come… this electrostatic is quite lightweight!
Current setup. Probably will stay like this until I find a ss amp that I want to go with. Not in a rush atm.
Recently added the Stellar Powerplant 3 and I definitely feel it’s made a solid improvement across the board. Highly recommend!
That looks so clean and neat.
That is beauteous! Rack envy… ![]()
@PartlyCloudy What’s the plastic cup on your amp for? Is this a new way to measure tube output?

This is a cough syrup cap to keep dust out. Is this mental disorder ? I’d say yes… ![]()
I have the same disorder! I put dust plugs or caps on everything not in use. I love these guys for 6.3mm jacks
I love them on my Kenzie with it’s multiple jacks. Don’t forget the classic red/white rca post covers!
My name is Eric and I’m a dustaphobe…
How do you like the Susvara from the WA33?
I like it a lot. I think it pushes the susvara properly and it’s very enjoyable. It’s not too tubey and not too ss imo. And tube rolling and dac pairing tweak it to your preference. No complaints other than the cost of tubes and I guess the cost of the amp. But once you get in the higher end stuff that happens I guess lol,
The May => MZ3 => Utopia is a fantasy setup for me. I have Utopias as well, and I’m wondering what other rigs you’ve tried with them, and how you’d compare this setup to them. Really nice gear you’ve got!
