"DAC" Definition:
A “DAC”, for the purposes of this index, is a pure Digital to Analog Converter that has no headphone output or built-in amplification. Variable level output is, however, permitted. In some cases, units intended primarily as high-end DACs, but that have basic headphone output capabilities, maybe included in both “DAC” and “DAC/Amp” categories.
For example, the Schiit Yggdrasil is a “pure” DAC and would live in this index. The AudioQuest Dragonfly Red is a “DAC/Amp”. And the Chord DAVE would show up in both “DAC” and “DAC/Amp” categories.
