DUNU SA6 - Official Thread

Glad to hear you got it sorted

Just received my SA6 (open box from headphones.com) and immediately tried it with the 4.4mm pentaconn on my ifi Gryphon and was surprised that I got no sound out of the left channel. At first I thought I got a defective unit, but I realized it is actually the connector plug itself. If I slightly pull on the plug both channels work. I can also put a 5mm washer (which is just under 1mm thick) and that seems to work, but that’s janky.

No problems with other headphone cables using 4.4mm pentaconn with my Gryphon, but not sure where the problem might be? Any better solutions than keeping a washer handy???

I have experienced the same issue with Dunu connectors in combination with iFi products.

Usually turning the connector slightly solved the issue but I agree that it’s not great.

Well I guess the good news is I didn’t get a defective unit… just two vendors who don’t play well with each other.

For better or worse, rotating the plug does nothing… need to slightly pull on it. Think I might just 3d print a 0.6mm spacer that is a press fit and less likely to fall off.

Yes, unfortunately this is a results of iFi’s choice of plug that they use for their 4.4 section. You need to slightly pull it out for it to work, and add a space for it to work long term otherwise.

I wish they would fix it, but it basically requires them to use an entirely different 4.4 section for their amps.

I have the same issue with my Bottlehead Crack (factory 1/4" socket). It seems vendors may intentionally make sockets too deep to compensate for jacks that are too long.

I did have the same issue with the 4.4mm socket on my Hipdac. Fully inserted, I’d only get 1 channel. Pulled the connector out just a smidge and all was good. I’d heard this was a problem in general with 4.4mm across the board, so I just made a plastic washer type thingy to keep that gap it needed. Eventually, I started having other issues with the hipdac so I needed to return it under warranty. Turns out the device I got back didn’t have that problem any more. I don’t know if iFi has changed the hardware or if it’s just a matter of “connector lottery”.
Just my experience, anyways

Hopefully they did, but more likely than not, it’s just connector lottery.

Imma just drop this here

Are you able to show a graph of the SA6 Ultra vs the new one?

Very late but here are my quick additions. I also found the cable kept coming out of the items (which was a shame since it’s a really nice cable). Using a tripowin cable with issues since.
For the tips I use comply but would like to look into some tip rolling in the future.

Does anyone have impressions of the CA Cascara vs the DUNU SA6?
