My friend, you are very kind and I personally congratulate you on such an awesome purchase. The D 8000’s are truly a thing of beauty.
As far as music goes I gotta ton of recs and anytime you wanna ask I’m happy to talk with you.
For now, I will recommend THE POLICE “ Zenyatta Mondatta.”
Get an original copy of this album. No remasters or reissues. You’ll love the sound. The mastering is perfect and those D 8000’s are gonna sing hardcore. It is a terrific recording. Enjoy!
This is a fantastic way to put it. While they ultimately just didnt have the level of technicalities I like to shove down my own gullet they reproduce the emotion of music excellently. I realy wish I could find a can with that level of emotion and enjoyment but totl technicalities. Several things have gotten close but none have quite done it yet for me.
Bonus points, D8000 OG sound fantastic out of a dap and/or BT dongle for wandering around the house
Thank you got the nice comment.
I really gotta tell ya I kind of miss that “fun listen” or more laid back, yet still sophisticated sound presentation. D-8000 I know do that in spades. I really might buy them one day. Right now I have The Sennheiser HD 800 C’s, Audeze LCD XC, the Mid Fi Sony MDR Z7 and lastly the Campire Audio Atlas’s IEMS.
I love all these headphones, but truthfully none of them are laid back at all. The Atlas’s are close, but they are still critical with shitty recordings.
The XC’s and HD 800’s have to be two of the most critical headphones of all time. You hear every mastering flaw like crazy.
One day I think a D-8000 would really complement my other headphones very well. It is the difference that would be most enjoyable.
Thank you for your kind words!
I definitely appreciate the recommendations and I’ll be sure to find an original release of that album next chance I get and I’ll report back on my feelings once I’ve had a bit of time with it!
I found Zenyatta Mondatta (non-remastered) in 16 bit / 44.1hz and I’m enjoying it right now!
Excellent album thanks for the recommendation!
if you are looking for a cheaper laid back sound the LCD-2C is actualy a pretty solid option. Just fair warning it does not compete technically against stuff like ananda and og clear but I love the hell out of those cans. Dark, lush, full bodied, and super musical
You are most welcome. It is a hard album not to like given the nature of this hobby of ours. It has just such great sound!
I wish I could record like that.
I recommend this album if you get a chance, definitely in my top albums. ivy league | potsu
I put it in my wish list to buy.
Hi Everyone. I would love to have any candid responses regarding to anyone who has had the pleasure of A/B’ing the D-8000 v.s D-8000 PRO.
I’m guessing one isn’t simply just way better than the other, but I know some of the generalities about the tech behind the tuning differences, but of course how does it sound??
I’d love to hear some thoughts or experiences regarding the differences and perhaps what others found to be flat out better than the other.
Thanks friends.
Sincerely,
A curious buyer.
Hey Mate. Have owned both. Compared both. Currently own the D8000.
The general feel to me is, if you keep the midrange the same, tilt the bass down, tilt the treble up.
There might be a hint more refinement to the D8000 Pro, but the EQ i had to apply to it to get it balanced how I like, made me prefer the stock D8000, which I don’t EQ.
Both great. One is warmer and bassier and the other is probably considered “neutral”, being brighter overall.
Hi B-Wing!
Thank you for this post. It is very helpful. I currently own 2 very clinical headphones and of course I’m looking for that laid back, warmer and easier going listening experience. From what you said it sounds like my tastes will lie with the original D-8000. I did audition them once for about an hour and I absolutely loved them. The tuning on those headphones really agrees with me and I was able to just fall into the music, relax and enjoy some terrific detail retrieval without any part of the sound being glaring or strident.
Thanks again for your post.
Here is a link to a write up i did between the two a little further up in the thread
Hi my friend. This is so terrific and helpful. Very appreciated here. You and a few others have really helped make my decision a lot easier to understand what choice is right regarding my tastes.
I really want to thank you again as well as the rest of you on this thread. I also hope we will all keep in touch and keep talking about both the pro and the original d-8000.
Furthermore, I honestly do plan to buy the original d-8000 this year. I’m gonna sell a couple pieces of equipment to help pay for it.
Currently I’m running a burson soloist SL, Chord Qutest DAC fed through a PS Audio AC regenerator power plant P3 Stellar. As my desktop setup.
My portable is a Cypher Labs Algorithm Trio Tube Amp. Uses B6111’s. They’re French tubes and back in 2017 is what I used to audition the D-8000 for that amazing 1 hr with my AK JR DAP.
I’m excited for you to get the D8000, definitely want to hear about your experience once you have them!
D8000 from a Chord Qutest + SparkoS Aries amp was insane. So very punchy and dynamic.
The combo is a super dynamic DAC, known for its dynamics and detail. And an amp with the blackest background and shortest decay. Combine that with a headphone with crazy good bass, serious contender for best headphone setup for EDM, prog, rock, metal. Anything that demands get up and go.
It will take me a few months, but I’m gonna get them.
I’m pretty dead set on having them and I know they will fit into my systems really well. Will definitely post impressions and excitement cause I know very well that the D-8000’s are gonna overtake my HD 800’s and LCD XC’s because the tuning will be way more in line for what I need.
Absolutely. You must be in audio Nirvana right now. I’ve also heard great things about that Sparkos Aries amp.
You have an awesome set up and I know first hand that the chord Qutest punches well above its weight in performance. It is just too bad that the M-scaler doesn’t really scale that high to warrant a 6 grand upgraded price.
Heard it does well with the TT2 though.
