Had TT2 too. Was crazy good. Just so much money tied in one device ya know
Definitely let me know when you have them in hand, Iâll curate a playlist for ya to enjoy!
Absolutely! And right back at you. I love sharing music. Will do that for sure. Once I settle in with them (the D-8000âs) for couple days Iâll start curating like a mad man.
Hello guys. Upon further consideration for buying either the D-8000 or D-8000 PROS I need some help.
It has to do with the âMid bassâ emphasis in certain tracks that makes the AFDS tech buckle and distort at louder listening volumes above 85 DB.
Here is an example of track that really hits hard in the low end and makes a ton of headphones (except the HD 800 ) fail/distort in the low end listening above 85 DB.
If you kind fellas could test both the D-8000 or the PRO with this track to tell me how well the headphones hold up.
Your help is greatly appreciated and helps me form a buying decision.
Cheers friends.
Give it a go when I can. Though D8000 has never clipped or distorted for me yet.
I was hoping you would respond, Mr. wing.
Thank you, my friend. I have a feeling at at least 90 DB the Proâs will handle it better, since they arenât as mid bass centric in their tuning, but will see.
Thanks for the help.
The âwhy so seriousâ from the batman soundtrack doesnât distort, that subbass drop is unnerving
I couldnt get it to distort afaik. Had it loud too, certainly wouldnt listen that loud normally
On both the Proâs and the originals?
I remember you said you have both?
Yes I agree. That is a good test track.
Only have the D8000 at the moment. Pro long gone.
I see.
So the D-8000 held its own in the test with your equipment.
No crackle or wavering?
Do you have a later serial number or first batch of manufactured releases?
Wouldnât be first batch. Came from the store about months ago.
After spending some time with the d8kp I thought Iâd share some thoughtsâŚ
Chain: Spring 3 â Allnic hpa-3000gt
(mostly compared to utopia)
Tldr: Both are great hps. Utopia if you want something analytical smooth, and d8kp if you want something forward energetic.
Impressions: First impressions of the d8kp other than bass were not that good. But that was listened through a not so ideal situation so fast forwardâŚ
The stock cable btw isnât so good sound-wise; glad it was suggested not to get the balanced version.
So bass is nothing short of sublime. Itâs very organic and loaded with great texture, grip, and control. It truly makes the utopia bass sound âmehâ by comparison at least on this chain. Itâs one of those qualities where it makes you think youâve never heard bass properly before. Nothing short of exceptional. The only nitpick really is that Iâd like a bit more decay and a slight subbass boost would be great (at least on this chain) but this just mostly comes down to preference. Other than that, Iâve got nothing else to say, truly.
Mids took some time getting used to. It sounded nasally most of the time for the first few days but after that I didnât really hear it anymore. Mids compared to utopia you get a more forward approach but nothing that causes problems imo. Tonally, I find it pretty even across the board even though bass and treble are relatively boosted just slightly. In addition, the utopia has more presence in the upper mids making it sound clearer by comparison; especially with female vocals in general. Overall, the mids on the d8kp have good presence, weight, and texture. I prefer utopia for the most part with the music I listen to, but generally the d8kp is more well-rounded. Both are more complementary than anything I feel.
Treble on the d8kp also has good energy and resolution. It is more forward than utopia and it can get a bit hot at times (at least on this system). I find that the d8kp treble isnât as refined or as airy as the utopia. So overall I think the utopia, in terms of treble performance, beats out the d8kp in general. Still great though itâs just not a standout compared to its other qualities and especially against the utopia imo.
For technical performance I find theyâre pretty evenly matched on this chain. One just focuses on a certain aspect more than the other. Specifically, the utopia focuses more on micro detail, nuance, and dynamics. The d8kp is generally more balanced in what it focuses for technical performance, but I do find it more distinct and sharp for separation. Overall, theyâre pretty much at the same level on my current system. Timbre is also good on the d8kp but Iâll give a slight edge to the utopia for the music I generally listen to. In terms of staging, I find the d8kp wider than the utopia but not by that much. Depth-wise, I think the utopia wins here but just by a bit. For its presentation, the utopia feels more like youâre sitting at center stage, while the d8kp feels more up front and closer. I also feel the utopia is more holographic in its placement and presentation, but I think thatâs mostly due to its overall presentation and/or source gear pairing. In closing, I find the d8kp a better all-rounder than the utopia, while the utopia excels more in organic music in general. Also, I noticed that the d8kp is more forgiving with recording quality over the utopia, even though the utopia is smoother.
For downsides, I wish the d8kp were better at lower volumes. This is a crank-it-up type of can and I mostly listen at lower to moderate volumes in general. Not a deal breaker but it is worth mentioning.
Both are great hps for sure and are pretty good complements to each other. Though you can probably say that with any dynamic vs planar hps. Ultimately, if I had to keep just one itâd be the utopia based on my preferences, but both are really great (so Iâm keeping both for now).
Just dropping some pics of the new custom cable I got made by vikingweavecables.com . Impeccable work - as always - even with original Final locking connectors. And I have to say - I got the cable mostly for looks and comfort but it also has a positive impact on sound - especially in the treble. I feel like D8k is so transparent to the chain, every small change has an impact on them.
Thatâs a nice looking cable! I use a danacable on mine and itâs pretty nice, sound-wise that is. Yeah I agree the treble on the d8kp can get hot depending on the source and what you plug in to it
That looks absolutely fantastic. I really love these headphones as well. I guess there is no need for you to get thisâŚ.
Talk about some expensive aesthetics.
Anyone here vent then to loosen clamp? Any tips?
