I have a pair of Stellias and a pair of Clear Pros (OG), and saw Resolve’s review saying that the Utopia is actually much less lean in the low frequencies when paired with a “high impedance” headphone amp.
I’m using the THX 789 using balanced XLR to the Stellias and Clear Pros, and I can’t figure out if it’s “high impedance” or not. I saw output impedance listed as 0.1 ohms but that doesn’t seem like I’m reading it right, because Resolve mentions something like the difference between 10 ohms and 120 ohms output impedance makes a huge difference.
Just wanted to know what would happen if I get the Utopia to pair with this amp. I just tried my Clear Pros again after months of using the Stellias exclusively and decided that I think I need to use open backed headphones again whenever it’s practical (i.e. noise in the apartment/laundry/dishwasher/street noise isn’t that bad). But I don’t want a downgrade from the Stellia’s on paper performance, so considering the Utopia. But bass is very important to me.
Punchy, tight bass that returns to rest very quickly and doesn’t decay or bleed into other ranges is my goal, and I was shocked at how good the Stellias are at that. They offer almost as much slam as the LCD-X’s that I tried in the past (Audezes were just too heavy to wear for long). Pretty amazed at how great they are – if the Utopias can be like open-backed Stellias (I know that usually people make the reverse comparison) then that would be great, but only if I can figure out the bass extension, or if it’s really not as bad as charts show.
I don’t really want to EQ (I have Sonarworks ID so I can, but it adds latency, which is not fun in music production if you’re playing around on a virtual instrument).
Any help clearing this up (pardon the pun) is appreciated!
