Grado - Official Thread

Omg, the gif with the smoke wafting in front of the headphones is priceless. I had to double check today’s not the first of April!

The entire ‘copy’ is full of puns. It’s pretty funny.

The wood tone profile description is intriguing (as 20% harder than oak), but still no detachable cables and $170 for the XLR option!

The Hemp headphone is Grado’s latest addition to th Limited Edition lineup. Some of the past LE headphones have used woods from local Brooklyn trees, Norwegian Wood because of love for the Beatles, and now Hemp Wood because, ah… well. Hemp wood was legalized in 2018 and is currently being used in many industries, 20% harder than oak, and easily cut to shape. What wood makes more sense to become part of the music industry?

XLR Connector

Terminate cable with XLR

[Add $170.00]XLR male and female connectors are inserted inline a few inches above the phono plug, so you can use it either way.

It seems to be a two-wood headphone, with a maple core and hempwood components. They haven’t said what driver size is. However, from the stats, it might be the RS2e driver.

The XLR would be the way to go, imo. You can add a nice ‘pigtail’ adapter for a standard 1/4” output.

I’ve always wanted a nice Grado.

This guy does Grado cable mods. They quoted me at $189 with cable rs1e model. I did not ask about other models.

They said there is a 2 week queue.

I’ve used Amplifier Surgery for a number of cables. They’re quite well made, and use quality components. But they are not the fastest.

Luckily I’m local lol. But I haven’t found anyone in U.s. with that price for that mod.

@pennstac have you seen this?

I may now have to get a pair of Grado just so I can have those awesome purple pads!!! lol

Any HP1000 (HP1, HP2, or HP3) fans or enemies?

Thanks for the call out there. I looked on their website, and left a comment that I’d like to see them make some L cushions. I also noted that I think from examining L cushions that they seem to have greater density closer to the periphery. This is possibly what makes people try the tape mods, and why tape mods seem to have a noticeable audio effect, (I tape mod my SR-60e but NOT the RS-1e).

I really want to see and hear what YAXI does with the S. The S is very comfortable, and playing with density might make me go back to S pads with the SR-60e, which I think sound better with the tape modded Ls.

I also suggested that YAXI is missing a bet in general by not also offering GREEN color choices.
But Yeah PURPLE would rock.

Have you heard of the Merino Wool pads for Grado?

@hazi59 has modded several Grado’s and he pointed me to some nice pads. He’s actually going to be starting a new Grado-style headphone project. Hopefully he’ll post here.

No, I haven’t. Not sure I could handle that. Wool can be itchy, but it might be a winter solution.

Well those look right interesting. A little pricey for the entry level Grado.

Definitely, but modding is pretty fun.

I might pick up a Grado, I just have to figure out which model. These Hemp Grado’s are intriguing.

But they are AMAZING! I bought them for my GH2’s many months ago. They are expensive, especially if you are putting them on a cheaper model.

I bought the hybrid model and it is super comfortable. Much more comfortable than an L-cushion.

Many thanks for this link!

I have an SR325e as the headphone I use (and love) with my iPad - no complaints on tonality here, but comfort could be better (especially as I wear glasses), so good to read that Silvian uses that model too.

Will order the Small Hybrid in Black, now that Blue and Redwood are unavailable for the moment  Shipping from NZ to Germany will be a nightmare though…
