HEDD Audio HEDDphone - Official Thread

Maybe you get it to try out on a meet, once

I would love to go to such a meet but unfortunately life obligations, work and location make that pretty much a no go for me, which is why Im on this forum and rely on the kindness of the members to answer my questions and supply reviews and comments.

I know there’s talk of restarting the Community Preview Program. I’m sure once it’s up you could probably get on the list for the HEDDphone.

It shouldn’t be too long before it’s back up and running. :+1:t4:

I see. Most of us won´t have a store, shows or meetups in the region, where we can get our hands on the really interesting equipment.

like Christopher wrote, once the Community Preview Program is back on track, you might be able to try some nice gear, soon. This is a top service, you american guys can participate!

I don´t want to sound like griping. I have many opportunities living in munich. At least one local store, with most top headphones, IEMs, DAPs, DACs and AMPs and others with less focus on headphones. We have the munich high end audio show, which is maybe the biggest audio related show on the planet, at least one of the big ones… we have meetups in germany, though they are far away.

short update … HEDD informed me, right now, about their balanced cable.

They have it available in 10 -14 days. I asked price and lenght(it will be similar to the single ended, I could imagine). - so updates follow…

Edit: it is 2.2m and is sold at 169 Euro

a transport case is planned for 2021, Frederik told me - for those interested in carrying or storing the HEDDphone.

That would be cool if I qualify for it, there are usually some guidelines as to who can participate to limit the chance of things wandering off into the wilderness.

Actually Canadian, which might be an issue as these kind of community sharing services usually tend to be US only, at least regarding the ones on forums I have seen.

Up to now its a lot of online research, buy and then hope its what I wanted. So far its worked out but still wonder if Im missing something.

it’s called audio enthusiast

most of us wonder about missing out on something, I believe. So there is no better place to be, I know, than in this forum.

Greetings,

New user here. I received my new (so I assume with the updated headband) HEDDphone from headphones.com yesterday, and have used them for about five hours so far, but not all in one session. It remains to be seen if I can make the comfort work for me or not. I can (and have) worn my Stellia all day long. Difference in comfort between the two is night and day. This is probably the only real flaw with the HEDDphone in my mind right now. It’s not necessarily that the headband doesn’t extend enough for me (I think I have it one or two clicks in from max). It’s two things: 1) the headband itself needs more padding – it starts to bug my skull such that I find myself shifting it every 5-10 minutes, and 2) the cups are on the high side for clamping force (even if I extend the headband to max) and causes discomfort in the area under my ear/upper jaw. Time will tell if I can get used to them or not.

So far, I’ve only used them with my Hugo2Go setup. The Hugo2 isn’t exactly the most powerful headphone output (~.75W@32Ohms, IIRC), but I can barely turn it up past half volume before the HEDDphones get uncomfortably (for me) loud. Sticking an (ancient) Rat Shack SPL meeter set to A weighting in the cans (and not really attempting to enclose the cup around it – so treat this as just a rough swag number) this equates to average of around 85db playing music from Roon with volume leveling enabled.

I also have a Phonitorxe in my home office (the Hugo2Go is my “transportable” headphone solution for around the house), but I have been holding off connecting them to it until the balanced cable I ordered comes in. It’s a shame HEDD didn’t have theirs ready at launch; the included 1/4" cable is actually quite nice.

As I have such a short period of time on them right now, I won’t really say anything about the sound quality, other than I have been enjoying it tremendously and it makes toughing through the comfort issues worth trying.

Have it from first batch it just fits perfectly on issue with comfort is sweating. But they sound so good that I don’t care. I kind of wonder how the leather will last is it’s real from the salt in my sweat.

My set is growing on me, in terms of enjoyment. My listening sessions got more relaxed, with the first been a bit overwhelming. I think I got now quite used to it. Don’t handle it like raw eggs anymore. And using the copper balanced Forza AudioWorks cable now… It became my goto set, besides the Elegia. The other hfs, like the 6xx and my wifes 1990 Pro can’t keep up, regarding my preferences.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I tried the tracks you listed here with the HEDDphones, very nice to discover new sounds. I am very new to high end headphones and never tried anything except for the HD700’s I had for over 4 years, the HD800S I also recently bought for comparison and the HEDDphone. I am impressed by the HEDD product; the build quality is not all there, mine had some very minor blemishes. But the sound is amazing. And when I do an AB test between the HD800S’s I am finally able to understand the meaning of “soundstage” and “separation” rather than just read about it. I keep thinking that, if the HD800S is the tamed version of the HD800 holy crap I would be hesitant of trying the original HD800 for fear of having bleeding eardrums by the end of the session. The HEDDphones are much more pleasant to hear, in my initial opinion but the detail and sharpness of the HD800S is quite remarkable and impressive (in small dosages spread out over time).

The HD 800’s are an awesome headphone and have a very revealing nature. They’re incredibly source dependent and certainly the Heddphone is not nearly as picky nor as revealing.
Unfortunately the HD 800’s demand top notch well mixed and mastered recordings or else your description is dead on about them “ an ear bleeding experience .” I totally agree.

Consider yourself blessed. Fit/comfort is a legit dealbreaker for a lot of people, but they sound absolutely fantastic, definitely punch a good amount above their price tag.

I totally understand that…the fit for me is excellent without using any of the extension settings…clamps nice, not as bad as other cans like HD600s…

Very fast transients, tight bass, uncolored sound, very much like “speaker” sound. Very resolving.

Will post more after a few days with them, only 30 minutes with 2 amps, Schiit Jot and Lyr.

I’ve auditioned them directly alongside an Empyrean, LCD-4 and Diana Phi. Honestly I can’t deny that to me they very much competed in that lineup in terms of sound. Very impressive for its price, and very unexpected too.

Looking forward to more impressions once you’ve got some time with them.
Happy listening!
