I need headphone wub's (a music + life journey/expression)

(*slightly tipsy and frustrated that I didn’t fix my Fostex, so rambling, be warned)

That age old question of, do you prefer headphones or speakers? Back 15 years ago when I first heard the question, I thought people were crazy for even asking the question. Then the past 6-7 years I’ve dove into the headphone space, and it’s been 100% headphones, granted there is no wall shaking sub… but that’s just a parlor trick?

For me Music is tied into most every part of my life, even sleeping. So, it’s no surprise that I am wanting to get away from my computer and in turn headphones. I will say that for the past few months while waiting for my Tungsten I have been unhappy with my listening situation. It’s either background noise while I clickity clack at my keyboard with flashing pictures or falling asleep on my couch. Both are great but I just really want music to grab me by the nards and not let go.

I have since added a mini-dsp and ooooold Klipsch 12” sub to my KEF Q950 at very low gain and it has subtly given me something I didn’t know I was missing. Though I can’t stop focusing on the fact that my layout has the sub behind the couch…. Why can’t I just enjoy music? Since then, I have tried to put my Elex on my endgame dac/tube solution and that low end extension is just gone and I can’t appreciate the value of everything the lack of it offers with headphones.

Anyways I came up with the solution tonight…. T50RP!!! But…. it’s been sitting on a table with helping hands for well over a month due to the jack getting flakey. I fired up my Chinese soldering iron and soldered a joint twice, both times feeling I had the pin-out wrong. I wanted to express victory but have given up. I know these headphones give the wub, and I’m sitting here with my DT-880-600 on low volume typing with a womp womp attitude. I’ll give them a kick but it’s not the same.

I guess my overall take away is that Ryan is a champ for what he does, this is a subject he knows inside out and excels at while not charging an exorbitant amount for it, all thing’s considered. That’s how I go about my work life, charge a reasonable price and gain customer loyalty. Sometimes you forget that knowledge and ease of which you do something you are excellent at overshadows how much it is worth to the average person. I should honestly just give up and have him convert them to Argon’s, which was a dream that never happened, but I’ve got Tungsten’s on the way.

So, my overall point is… Learn to listen to the music not the hardware, but enjoy the journey the hardware gives you. And, Ryan at Modhouse is a PIIMP.

*edit DT880-600 is satiating me for now

The journey is certainly just as enjoyable as reaching the end of it and attaining the goal, at least for me. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I hope the Tungsten brings you much joy!

Just use your headphones with your sub on. It’ll annoy the hell out of everyone else, but you will enjoy.

Found THIS out the hard way. The same people that told me I could listen to my speakers at whatever volume I wanted freak out when I use my headphones + sub at a reasonable volume level. :joy:
