I'm Sailing Away

the bane of my past life doing Search and Rescue on the ocean… just saying

Business idea.

Beer cans that float after you’ve finished with them.

Sink a tin, clip it onto your belt or vest. Survive.

At least in WA/Seattle … the boating scene, sailing especially, seems to be replete with improbably attractive and available women that either a) know my wife* and/or b) invite themselves along for the day.

That, on its own, I could understand …

Why they all seem absolutely insistent on taking their clothes off, 10 minutes after clearing the dock, is much less clear.

Not that I am adverse to that … at all.

*I am fairly convinced that my wife knows almost everybody, everywhere. We literally cannot go on vacation, or even on a trip, without running into someone she knows. First cruise? Met two of her best friends the first night in port for dinner. Second cruise? Didn’t even make it to lunch on the boat before running into two of her college-mates. First time together in Venice? Dinner with one of her older friends. On the “Andean Explorer” in Peru? Dinner with one of her best friends from an earlier job.

What the difference between American beer, making love in a boat, the photo above and perhaps @Torq’s cultural scence?

[Google the punchline]

American Beer IS like making love in a canoe.

It’s fucking close to water …

(Old Monty Python gag … with the Bruce’s) …

That needs to be updated to Corona beer. It’s literally thinner than discount American beer, and used to be the workman’s substitute for water. Then college students in LA discovered it as a beginner’s beer on their trips to Mexico and brought it home. Then added lime to give it any flavor at all. And the brilliant capitalists figured out they could charge premium Guinness prices for…yellow water…

They do in New England.

Corona is terrible.

I’m not a big drinker, but I’ll seldom turn down a Bohemia.

Have you considered that she might be an international spy?

It’s funny you should say that …

Very early on in our relationship, I had dubbed her my “International Girl of Mystery” …

Wow Torq no longer owning a Yggdrasil?! Sounds like heresy!

I’m curious, if there was ever a Yggdrasil Analog 3, what would it need to reclaim the top site over the Chord Dave?

A power switch on the front.

I haven’t owned an Yggdrasil in a little over a year now.

Though I do still think it’s an excellent piece, and very hard to beat, subjectively, at its price-point.

For me, however, whatever went into a next generation Yggdrasil would have to beat the combination of M-Scaler and DAVE, while being 1/3rd the size and half the weight of the current Yggdrasil … and incorporating a similar level of direct headphone output and a crossfeed facility, before I’d have a spot for it.

I doubt that’s in Mike’s vision of where he want’s his DACs to go.

After nearly two weeks with the HSA-1a/SR1a combination, and a little flitting to things like the Vérité Closed … it’s clear there is more culling of my collection to do … prior to our actually “casting off”.

At this point, I think this going to come down to having ONE headphone of each type. In other words, one ribbon driver, one AMT, one dynamic, one planar and one electrostatic.

At least for open-backs. The moment I look at closed-backs there are no interesting electrostatics, no AMTs or ribbons at all, and the planar options are highly marginal at best. So that’ll probably be just one or two dynamics.

Should be a fun process …
