I am kind of new to using streaming services (I have a large vinyl and CD collection that has been ripped to NAS) and one of the questions I have concerns the management of music I do not own. Those who do not have Roon, mostly stream and who have switched between Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify, how do you transfer your favourites lists? Because in effect, your favourites lists are your collection.
Iâve preached about this in other threads, so my apologies if it feels like Iâm beating a dead horseâŚ
Youâll have to subscribe for a month to do full playlist/library transfers, which is about $7 if I recall correctly, but it will allow you to transfer everything from one platform to another. It will also provide you with a report you can save as csv which will show you which tracks couldnât be found on the target platform, which ones copied over successfully, etc.
One nit I can pick is that some tracks get matched with songs from tribute albums - Metallicaâs One might transfer over as Metallicaâs One performed by SomeCrappyBand from the A Punk Tribute To Metallica album - which is fairly easy to spot and correct. Just be aware of it.
I made a quick video of it, if that helps.
Ah, thanks. My apologies for not having properly looked on other threads for an answer.
Sorry, I wasnât criticizing. Thereâs a lot of threads.
Well thanks for this! Of everything this dead horse seems like a good one to beat regularly lol
Your absolute right Ian, I was being an idiot(what happens when I reply at 4am lol) I was thinking of âDirect Modeâ when I was replying to âExclusive Modeâ so absolutely my mistake.
I just found this so I will try it later to see if it works and allows Direct Mode on Audirvana with my MacBook Pro running Catalina.
The settings are through Audirvana (I recommend trying the free trial of Audirvana then log into your Quboz account), Iâll include pictures below of how to access the settings.
Once you get to this page scroll down to the settings
Thank you!
Your welcome!
Also as Ian recommended you can turn on âLarge CoreAudio I/O bufferâ
I have not had a chance to try that setting yet
Hi Ian,
On your new MacBook via Audirvana are you able to get âDirect Modeâ? From the reading I have been doing on the subject, it seems that Apple has made accessibility to certain parts of their operating system and hardware unavailable do to Security reasons. So unless workarounds are done(nothing I want to do), having Direct Mode on Audirvana will not be possible.
âDirect Modeâ was removed from OS X before it became macOS. It is not related to the hardware revision; itâs purely an OS-level thing.
You can restore the option for âDirect Modeâ by replacing a kernel extension with a pre-Mojave version (thereâs a specific version required). Though any OS updates will require you go through the, somewhat fiddly, process of replacing the KEXT again
Out of interest, I compared output in âDirect Modeâ (on the earlier KEXT) and without it and found two things. First, the bit-level output over the USB interface is 100% unchanged. Second, there was no change at all in the noise profile on the USB VCC/GND lines. And there was no audible difference either (tested blind).
The short version is that, objectively, thereâs no reason, nor any need, to run âDirectâ mode anymore.
Thank you Ian for all that you contribute, greatly appreciate it sir. @Torq
Thank you Ian,
For clarifying and for the testing you have done regarding âDirect Modeâ this information is very useful and puts to rest my questions regarding the difference of having/using âDirect Modeâ
What do you think of âInteger Modeâ? For myself I find it does something to the soundstage that is just different. Have not compared it enough to explain further in more detail.
Also not sure if you saw a previous post to you? But I had mentioned that you were absolutely correct regarding âExclusive Modeâ as it was completely my mistake, as I was thinking of âDirect Modeâ when I was replying to comments about âExclusive Modeâ I had also made a joke about responding at 4am. though the way I had it originally worded it may have sounded like I was referring to you replying when I was referring to myself replying. Sorry if there was any confusion regarding that post.
Yes, Thak you Ian @Torq, all that you do is greatly appreciated
If it makes an audible difference, I canât hear it. But itâs a simpler âprotocolâ, so I enable it where it is available (not all DACs support it).
In the last 18 months or so I have adopted as much blind testing as possible when trying to discern differences in things, especially where there should not be a difference. It is too easy for expectation bias to lead you to differences that donât actually exist otherwise.
Yes, I saw it.
No confusion; no worries!
That is the best way of doing A/B testing and I belive you are correct in regards to âExpectation Biasâ for myself regarding âInteger Modeâ though it is good to know that it is a simpler âprotocolâ as I have not compared it enough and was using the âschool of thoughtâ on ânotâ enabling things that may not need to be enabled. I was thinking it was a âfilterâ. When I did try it the few times that I did, the only thing âdifferentâ I noticed was in regards to the soundstage as everything else remained the same. Though again this is most likely âExpectation Biasâ.
Glad there was no confusion; thank you!
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to enable dark mode on Quboz? I just signed up and it gave me the option when installing, but canât find it now?
Thanks for your time!
Wes
I think I figured it out, I was installing Quboz yesterday, on my S10+ and iPod/ipad, and I think the option to for dark mode, is only available with ios?
I will say, that I have been using Tidal HiFi for a good while now, and I am liking the sound quality of Quboz HiRez better.
Quboz seems to have better more present and clearer mids and treble, which in turn opens up the stage better.
Now to decide it I want to keep Tidal. . .
Roon is the Qobuz dark mode.
You can also use Audioirvana on desktops for a dark mode. There is no dark mode on Qobuz for desktop.
