Love both designs. Hope to get my hands on the copper for a smell test
My store round the corner has the first version which I very very liked-- against my will
don’t worry it smells like the gunmetal version.
Are the yolks the same color as the grills?
Also, are they the same color as your previous pair?
No the sliders are more metallic look. You can tell it’s paint on the grill but I really like it. I sold my gunmetal version because I got the d8000, but ended up missing the Empyrean so I but the this one.
oh the copper version is in all black.
I like the 99 classics so much (despite their shortfalls) that I keep thinking I would really love these (despite some of the mixed reviews). There are a few flagships in line ahead of this one, though (Stellia, Verite, RAAL) so I’ll just have to wait for an opportunity to hear them at some point.
They’re just built so well.
I also have other headphones ahead of these in my “future purchases” line, but boy are they pretty.
The last headphone I’d like to add to my collection is the RAAL.
And now you have a great option to power them with the Jotunheim R.
Thank for posting some pictures of the “new” copper Empyrean’s.
I like the look of both the original and the copper.
@BondDaBoom is the case still the same? Just the packaging box that is different?
I have a pair of 99’s and they really are a fun headphone, impressive for what they are.
The Empyrean’s are the much more ‘matured’ grown up version of the 99’s but IMO have a little bit of the same “flavor” of sound between them.
Same case just different packaging.
Thank you for clarifying
@taronlissimore & @andrew - will the Empyerian black+copper version, and XLR terminated cable, be available for purchase on the headphones.com site?
And the grey as well?
Love my Empyreans, though I’m not the first to say that the travel case, while sturdy and beautiful, isn’t the most compact in the world. (It’s a bit smaller than a full-size briefcase).
Problem is, the Empyreans have somewhat unusual dimensions for headphones: about 25cm x 23cm x 8cm, and after an exhaustive search, I learned that no one makes a specialized case for them, 99% of generic headphone cases are too small, and the remaining 1% are too big to fit them snugly, or too bulky to fit in a carry-on.
So I expanded my search beyond headphone cases. Way beyond. Ladies and gents, I present to you what I believe to be the only hard zip-up case case on the internet that snugly fits the $3000 Meze Empyreans:
The price? $13.99 with prime delivery. Is the fit perfect? No, there’s an extra inch or two around them, but the interior is pretty soft felt. Is it anywhere near as safe as the briefcase? Uhh, no, but it fits in carry-ons and is perfect for porting them around the house or to a friend’s.
As silly as it sounds to keep a pair of $3000 cans in a $14 glue gun case, I thought I’d share. Meze, if you’re listening, think about offering a slightly more portable case, and if you’re an Empyrean owner who’s found your own solution to this, let me know!
That’s funny.
And, a fine solution for what you needed.
Excellent solution. Cheap too. Win, win.
With the recent update to Unison USB in my DAC I’ve found that what I hear through my chain has changed more than I would have believed from just a USB interface. Due to this I’ve noticed increased bass, cleaner clearer presentation of all music and better imaging. Also because of this I’ve changed the EQ used with my Empyrean’s. Changes are to pull some bass out as I found it became a bit too much and rather muddy in the bass to upper bass range. Push the mids a bit more forward and to add some air up around 14k. This brings the Empy much closer to neutral and at least through my gear sounds pretty damn good.
They added black grills they should make a red.
