How you like your IHA-6?

Thanks!

I love it! While I lack the experience in describing the technical aspects of it, I can say compared to what I have (THX 789) its absolutely excellent for a solid state amplifier. Clean and tons of power (solidly built too!). I have heard some odd differences out of the single ended outputs compared to the 789, but after watching @Resolve’s review of the IHA-6 it sounds like a normal occurrence due to output impedance(s). Definitely one to use with the XLR output.

Hello to everyone!

First off, I’ve been reading in this community for a month and finally decided to make an account and contribute, as well as share some dialogue.

You can read a lot more in my bio, but I’m looking forward to giving perspective as a drummer who loves music/audio, is eclectic, and has a unique pair of ears (and still pristine hearing–thanks to my audiologist). And a diverse amount of sources.

I especially look forward to contributing some detailed reviews from a musician’s perspective!

Howdy … I’ve been “into audio” since the late-'80s, owing to my proximity to the classical music critic at the daily newspaper I worked at, and also being alternately a film or music critic/journalist all these years it sort of became a facet of my professional life that seeped into my life at home … And yet, for the roughly 30 years I would call myself an audiophile, I have only been really interested in headphones for the past couple (maybe three) years in any real way. I owned some 60 buck Grados back in the late-'90s that served me well, as did Sennheiser 650s and AKG 701s, but I mostly used them for either transcription or to listen to music on plane trips. My deeper interest in headphones loosely corresponds to a puchase of some HiFiMan 400i’s, followed by Mr. Speakers Aeon closed, and my embrace of streaming audio … all this is just in the past year, year-and-a-half, really. I’ve really come to enjoy it in a way that I never did before (better file quality, better gear for headphone listening) … even though they have been a professional tool for decades …

This also corresponds with the great deal of traveling that I prefer to do (when there isn’t a global pandemic, obviously) and enjoying music on the road (via streaming and files on the laptop). I can absolutely say that it has brought me much deeper into sound, and lead me down some interesting new roads … I do write about music professionally (mostly jazz, classical and folk/songwriter-based) – briefly for Stereophile many years ago, and most prominently for WSJ off and on over a 17-year period, and a million other places – so the indulgence in high-end listening has paid me back in countless ways.

And of course, right now, it’s been a lifeline … It’s nice to find this community, and I’ve really appreciated the depth of knowledge and clear and thoughtful communication.

Hey, you look new, but I thought you used to look more like Clark Kent. WSJ? Bloomberg has a “business of music” spot once a week. Welcome, Steve.

More like Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lester Bangs, haha. Covered the NYC arts scene for Greater New York (i.e. metro) section 2010-2016 (when they dismissed almost the entire department, not to mention the Friday entertainment section). Most recently was contributing to the National Sawdust Log but they just killed that … Longest stint anywhere was Atlanta (1988-2000) at the AJC (of “Richard Jewell” infamy). Thanks and nice to be here!
