Awesome! The closest I can get to that is the Verite Open with the Elise lol. I am going to try it on the OTL. It’s a trippy album, his music for me has always had the ability to pull me in with the way he produces it. Reminds me of 1015 Folsom Parties back in the day.
You need to bribe @TylersEclectic to send you his beloved purples!!! Good luck with that! Hahahaha
Back on the RAD-0 Train!
I have his VO right now!! lol he probably is starting to miss them!
I know…but that’s because he’s got “The Purple” set to make him forget the VO!
Wow, I had heard of Porcupine Tree but none of those other bands. I liked all of them, so I’ll start exploring their discographies. Should I start with the albums that those songs were taken from?
Man I need to learn how to listen to those guys…I just don’t know “how” to listen to them… I feel a bit ignorant for “lacking” appreciation for some of the most renowned classical music.
I do enjoy some big orchestral sets though, specially the ones with huge bass thump.
Just like any other music, you need to find that entry point. Once you get that, you can listen to more music that sounds similar, and then when you’re ready, try something one step away. Or you may never find that entry point because there isn’t one for you.
I was in the same boat as you and tried lots of different things until I discovered I liked Mozart’s piano concertos. I went from there to other Mozart, and then explored composers that came after him etc. And then I stopped exploring until I stumbled into the Classical Music thread, and @perogie and others have been helping me try some other composers.
There’s too much music to be familiar with all of it.
Just put on some cans and go. Look through the classical thread for some suggestions. You got the gear to do a lot of it justice.
Thanks @PaisleyUnderground! I will appreciate some recommendations and will start following the Classical music thread! @perogie recommendations from you are also welcome!
Thanks fellas!
The goal is not to be familiar with all sorts of music brother! I was just sharing that I would like to know how to properly listen and appreciate some classical classics! Will explore the classical music thread! Thanks!
I’m just a little guy when it comes to classical. There are guys around here who have been at it for many years. I’m a couple of years at the most. @FLTWS and @pennstac are much better folks to ask.
It’s not the most popular thread but there is some really nice detailed info in it. I try to keep it alive as much as I can.
EDIT: I would also like to add @Tchoupitoulas as a go to for classical. All three have been very helpful to me.
Ok, so… Hehehehe
Blackfield is a side project of Porcupine Tree’s lead singer, so you’ll get fresh PT-like stuff from that, with a twist. The album “Blackfield” is good and not a bad place to start.
Lunatic Soul is the side project of the singer of Riverside. “Fractured” is a good album, but I kinda like “Through Shaded Woods” more. It’s more acoustic.
The Pineapple Thief is an altogether separate band… Ok, actually Gavin the drummer for Porcupine Tree was involved in several albums, but that’s a very good thing cuz he’s an incredible drummer… And I would suggest “Your Wilderness” or “Disallusion” as places to start.
I jumped around on their first album just now and also hear that toolesque sound. Will check this band out more tonight. Added to my tidal library
Getting into Classical music via tidal/etc. is a rabbit hole! Get ready to have fun and find some pretty cool stuff. I started out googling great recordings and popular concert recordings. There is a lot of great stuff that was recorded a long time ago and it’s interesting to think about how great fidelity they got in a time with very little technology.
I’m diggin Riverside’s Second Life Syndrome album too. I haven’t strayed from it yet as I’m still processing.
Artificial Smile is a standout to me. Love how the lead singer actually sings but can smoothly transition into a scream when the music calls for it.
I love me some Gavin Harrison but I’m having trouble getting into Pineapple Thief. All the tracks I’ve checked out seem to stop right before they need to take it to the next level. Any recommendations for a big Tool and later Porcupine Tree fan (after Harrison joined and they got more metal)?
I find that this is challenging for both progressive rock and classical, but the rewards are worth the effort.
Just a suggestion: along with an album recommendation could posts also include your favorite track from that album please?
Pineapple Thief is one of those bands that have a few songs I like on each album (usually), but the rest can be meh or skipped. So I don’t really have a Pineapple suggestion for you regarding your question. They are probably the least Tool-like of the bunch.
If you like Artificial Smile, check out the songs on the album Anno Domini HD. Left Out is one of my favorites on that album. I think the guitar riffs sound very unique. Heavy but melodic.
There are a lot of ways to get into Classical. In the Classical Thread, we talk about some of them. Yes, it helped that my Mother taught classical guitar and piano. I like a bit of academic intro to classical. Tidal has some great videos talking about Bach. I think I pointed to them in the classical thread. Even though my journey with classical started elsewhere, it’s when I learned what to listen for with Bach’s 2 and 3 part inventions that my appreciation level soared.
Ok, I listened to it on the Empy, and it’s super good for that 3D holographic stuff, bass, etc.
There is also no doubt in my mind these guys are from England. Haha
