Once, a very long time ago, I was a 12 year old breakdancer who thought this song was the absolute shit.
So I was purposely going way off my typical “beaten path” of music to try different things on my new 800s. Listening to chorale music (maybe a first for me), which sounds fantastic with the 800s. These headphones really have a realism to them. One of the first things I listened to with them (which I believe @pennstac previously shared)…
…sounds incredibly real.
Anyway, the point of my post is an album I stumbled across while perusing genre tabs in Qobuz. There under R&B > Disco (don’t judge me) was …
WTF !!?? Grateful Dead Disco ?!?! Now I’ve never been a big Dead fan, just not my cup of tea. So this going under my radar is not surprising but I figured it was more likely a case of poor categorization by Qobuz…. Nope. It’s disco, well at least the title track is. The albums kinda all over the place. There’s disco, cover tunes, reggae, blues…the “New Minglewood Blues” track I really like. This isn’t so much a recommendation as just pointing out an oddity. Its different and well kinda strange but still definitely sounds like the Dead. If you’ve ever wondered what the Dead meets Disco sounds like…here you go.

2:09 Oh my that BOOM! It’ll make you smile
Its odd for me to think that that album is that old, still sounds as fresh now as it did back then. Its one of those untouchable albums for me.
I know, I go back to it now and then and just enjoy it all over again. Love the mystery behind The Blower’s Daughter lol.

Loved this song when I was 20, still do. Claypool is a bass master.
@Shelby_Steve - got to see him play in the early 90s with both Primus and Sausage - he’s one of a kind.
Enjoying some jazz fusion
Love Chick Corea. Saw him twice in the Return to Forever years.
Goat - “Goatfuzz” - from the best 70s African prog proto-metal band from Sweden of the last decade.
