I picked the off to the right part. Most obvious. But couldn’t picture the other guy “behind the listener” with the 6XX. With the DT700 PRO he sounded a little more spacious (downwards I’d say). SRH1540 was even more spacious than the Beyers.
This is the kind of abstraction I still need to learn, or purchase a headphone that makes it more evident.
But at least this track clearly demonstrates the narrow presentation of the HD6XX. Thank you for that.
Not long ago, I picked up the double album (vinyl) Frank Sinatra - Live at the Sands. With Count Basie and his Orchestra, arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones. Just listened to sides 1 and 2. No headphones. This chain is the VPI Prime Scout with Ortofon 2M Bronze. To Musical Fidelity phono preamp. That feeds the Wyred 4 Sound STI-1000 integrated amp which goes to the modified Rectilinear III Highboy speakers. Good speakers for this music, even if they did come out 2 years after the 1966 concert.
Frank in his prime is always something special, and the Count with his Orchestra are no slouches either.
I wish I had been interested in Vegas when I was younger, but I’m really not old enough to have enjoyed the classic stage one Vegas. The Sands, built in 1952 was one of the spots to go. I couldn’t as I was -2 years old when it was built. Danny Thomas, The Rat Pack, just about every big act was there. In 1965 they built the tower. When just 44 years had passed they demolished the Sands and built - I think the Venetian - where it stood. Apparently it could not compete with the Mirage, built close to it.
I read the liner notes of the album. It was such a different world. You had to live with the cigarette smoke, and just like it as part of the atmosphere.
I remember as a young child smoking and non-smoking sections in restaurants. Where the difference was usually a smaller portion designated non-smoking, with the boundaries typically being the distance from one booth to another. Not ideal for asthmatics.
The good old days…
But honestly, there are some aspects of those days that I do wish remained. The biggest being self-reliance, any divisive nonsense can remain in that era. Though today some issues have been rearing their ugly heads.
Here’s to the fine music of the era. May we always have access to, and be able to enjoy such fine art.
Well since my Qobuz free trial just expired I’m back to Youtube for discovering music. And boy did I find a couple of good ones by a group called Mondo Grosso. They are a side project for a Japanese DJ by the name of Shinichi Osawa. After a long hiatus they have released 2 albums in the last 3 years. I’ve managed to order from Japan the LP of the latest album so I’m awaiting its arrival. So I leave you here with 2 of their gems, though both albums are quite good. Check them out!
What an amazing funky and energetic ride.
Discovered this gem only yesterday (actually found it because I was watching a video tour of Focal factory and Diggin’ on James Brown was one of the songs they played when showing off their TOTL Focal Grande Utopia speakers).
