“Now Playing”

Cool, cool. I can’t for the life of me keep all the subgenres of these styles organized in my head. It would probably help if I lived in the UK, and was doing alot of clubbing. I think my clubbing days may be mostly over though.

I cannot tell a lie. It was me. Some of the picks on the staff lists here are pretty good…

There is also a thread here for electronic music, which you might enjoy. I haven’t personally listened to much there though.

I listen to alot of country in my car. At home I listen to music from all over the world. Especially the Balkans/Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America, The Middle East, and Africa. There are a few pop artists I like as well, like yer Dua Lipas, Kylie Minogues, Tinashes, Madonnas, and so forth. Some is pretty kitsch, but fun.

I have been listening to some KISS as well recently. And Meatloaf. Wasn’t a huge fan back in the day. But I enjoy some of the more theatrical rock bands, including glam and hair metal bands. And as I listen to more of these artists now, I like some of what they were tryin to do as groups and artists. They were really just about putting on a good show, and givin the fans a fun ride, I think.

There is also a thread where forum members post their favorite test tracks here…

Paul Oakenfold - Live @ World Tour, The Rojam in Shanghai (26.09.99) is what I’m listening to now.

Back on Dec 31 1999 I dove into the party scene pretty hard. A friend thought I slept with his girlfriend and OD me. It took 20+ years to get over the effects of the severe mental illness that it caused and part of the healing was to hate everything from those day’s. But today I’m as strong as ever and confronting one of the few thing’s I actually loved and want to keep from those days, the music. For a couple of decades anything resembling Paul Oakenfold brought back memories and feelings that I couldn’t handle. But today I found someone on ebay selling something like 80+ of his set’s for $30 and just downloaded them from a link he gave me. I have the ability to find my own “free” music but believe in paying for it, even though this isn’t an official source and I’m certain he got it the same way I would, ain’t nobody got time for that. In 10 minutes I got them all downloaded and I feel ok with it because these aren’t set’s you can buy for any amount of money. They just existed on the internet years ago.

That same friend taught me to love electronica, and now that he has passed and I have forgiven him, I can remember listening to these sets with him and it makes me happy. Keep the good get rid of the bad.

*Edit: I got to my lazy boy because I remembered the album that same friend loved but I never understood until years later. I think this one has more potential than my usual post’s here.

Thanks for sharing. Music a powerful thing! I had a similar experience. I went through something very traumatic and I was listening to Tool - Aenima at the time. While I truly believe the music of this album helped me process what had happened, it got to the point where I could not listen to this album without thinking about the trauma and getting very upset. So I gave the CD to a friend.

Years went by and Tool released Lateralus. I was actually afraid to hear this album too so I didn’t buy it for months. Finally I did and really enjoyed it. Which made me want to buy Aenima again, but it still took months before I could. It’s been so long I can listen to it now without a problem even though I still relate the lyrics to the problems I was going through back then.

Gee I feel ancient. My trigger album was Quadrophenia, though I loved everything before from My Generation, Happy Jack, Sell Out, and Tommy. But I had very dark thoughts for a decade on Quadrophenia.

Yes these are real albums by an actual group, even though My Generation sounds like something old people would say when lecturing you youngsters. You can do your “research” and look it up.

Eh? What’s that you say? Sorry, I can’t hear well. I’ve been to too many The Who concerts back in the day.

Kind of obscure for 1985, but innovative and great.
