One Headphone Collection vs Two Headphone Collection vs Three Headphone Collection Selections

Curious to hear your take on the he6se v2 on rebel amp vs something else like topping a90 sonic differences?

First of all, Topping is garbage. So, I cannot provide any sonic differences to anyone since Topping is not allowed in my house. Topping is poorly constructed, poorly designed, and they are a nightmare to deal with.
.
However, in the case of the RebleAmp, we are talking about the other end of the spectrum. It has been designed with over twenty years of evolved engineering on it’s design. It is built solidly and feels and looks beautiful. This amp oozes sonic quality. I have compared the RebelAmp to ALL of my other headphone amplifiers and it comes out on top compared to ALL OF THEM when driving the HE6SE V2. I would pay $900 or more for this amp, so at $500 it is an absolute steal. At it’s price, nothing can touch it from my amps. The closes being the Schiit Jotunheim 2 when pairing the HE6SE V2.

I kept quiet on this because I didn’t want to have to pay more for the RebelAmp. But now that I have mine secured at bargain prices, I am letting the cat out of the bag.

Well now we’re at 660 :confused: :scream::sob:

I think a few things are in play about the price increase:

  • Rebel priced it as low as possible because they had no reputation or history. The first year buyers got a deal for being guinea pigs.

  • They were likely priced too low given the materials and build costs. IMO the RebelAmp is worth more than the Lyr 3, construction-wise. They were both previously $500. Some small companies underprice their goods and belatedly discover they’ve been losing money with every order.

  • COVID issues…every country is giving money away so money isn’t worth anything…universal…ugg…

Yeah I’m aware of All that but I was contemplating between a lyr 3 and the rebel amp, as an alternative for my g111 and as an German the price for the rebel was attractive now both are comparable again and I’ll have to make up my mind about it sonically again XD

That is a very large % price increase, which is unfortunate. I’d been on the fence a bit with the Rebel Amp, as there are some significant downside risks to buying it while living in the US. Since it’s a new company/product with not much track record, any potential warranty shipping costs to Ukraine are large, as is a remorse return.

It might have been underpriced before, but a 32% jump in price makes it even less attractive now… :slightly_frowning_face:

One and done: Abyss Phi TC with Woo Wa33 Elite

  • I know this is expensive, but IMO, everything sounds good - and while some other headphones do things better, overall, all of my music sounds best on this setup. I also think the Abyss sounds best on tubes, which is why I included my amp here. I personally think this sounds better than the HE-1.

Two headphones: Abyss Phi TC with Woo Wa33 Elite, and Audeze LCD-5 with Chord Dave

  • The LCD-5, I think, has the best resolution of any headphone I’ve ever heard - and listening direct out of Chord Dave maximizes resolution and transparency. While bass is good on the LCD-5, I don’t think it can compete with the Abyss on rock - which I listen to a lot of. I probably listen to jazz the most, and it’s album by album with Abyss vs LCD-5.

Three headphones: Abyss Phi TC with Woo Wa33 Elite, Audeze LCD-5 with Chord Dave, and Audeze LCD-4 with Enleum Amp 23r

  • I kept my LCD-4 when I got the LCD-5 and I’m glad I did. It’s the perfect version of the previous Audeze house sound in my opinion, which I love. While it’s beat by the other two in a number of areas, I still think the mids on the LCD-4 are the best I’ve ever heard - and for vocal oriented music it’s second to none. It also has the best bass after the Abyss. The Amp 23r wakes the LCD-4 up, so that it’s faster, yet retains the Audeze house sound.

I own other headphones (Hifiman Susvara, Focal Clear, Ether C Flow 1.1, Audeze LCD XC) - but these are the three I’d pick. The Focal Clear vs LCD-4 is a really tough pick as I love both, and if I absolutely had to have a closed back I would keep the XC. That said, these are the three headphones I listen to most. And yes, I haven’t fallen in love with the Susvara as much as the others listed. I can’t bring myself to sell it yet, as I still enjoy it - but if I was raising money for another purchase - it would probably be the first to go.

I’ve had a change of heart after a week of listening to the Susvara and it’s in my top 3. Abyss TC is first, and then it’s tied with the LCD-5 as number 2.

I am getting to a point where I don’t know if I can pick a favorite amongst the 3, which is the best place to be.

  1. HIFIMAN HE6 (4-screws)
Engaging headphones with great technicalities and impactful bass.
  2. Warwick Acustic Bravura
Insane clarity, only matched by live performance. The best bass performance of all electrostatic competitors
  3. Fostex TH900
The treble gets better with the aging, brand new they sound harsh. Fantastic detail retrieval, best closed-back headphones for my music taste.

I love impactful sounds, too physically feel the strings on a guitar and the vibration of the piano must be part of the listening experience.

Me too. Revised:

  2. HifiMan HE6SE V2 driven by Rebel Audio RebelAmp
  3. Audeze LCD-X 2021 driven by Rebel Audio RebelAmp

Interesting. I’m too lazy to look up the specs, but I wouldn’t have thought the Rebel had enough power for the HE6SE, given the lengths people go to to find the perfect speaker amp for those headphones. But you like it, so what do I know. Or did you find a way to bi-amp your 2 Rebel amps? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yup, the RebelAmp powers HE6SE V2 very well. It is surprising how well an amplifier will perform when quality components have been carefully selected in it’s construction. I don’t put much faith into rated specifications. Real world first hand listening trumps what is on paper. If one is looking for ear blasting levels that would damage hearing, then I could see one going for the Schiit Jotunheim 2 over the RebelAmp.
