Indeed I am with you. haha.
I gave up the back strap from the day 1!

I am sure now you have some idea how resolving and scaling Vidar+SR1a combo is. If you haven’t yet, it’s worthwhile trying various sources to enjoy their difference before considering the second Vidar.
As a previous owner of ADI-2 (I sold it this spring…), I don’t think it suffices for SR1a and Vidar. At least, I’ve always felt dissatisfied with its restricted dynamics and slow transient. It may be good for music producers but it has something to be desired for enthusiastic audiophiles.
I do actually prefer the Airist R-2R as the DAC for my tube amps…just need to get something to control the volume… I will look into it this weekend.
Ok quick question, for people cough @Torq cough
Would the schiit sys or saga be the best suited for volume control? Could I do a sys/Loki stack for analog EQ?
Sys works. I prefer bigger knob products (such as JBL’s) though. Just note that sys can’t do balance. For single vidar, it’s non-issue, but vidar x2 need balanced ins and outs.
Any active pre amps (Saga included) work too. Preference varies.
During my current (on-going) evaluation of Feliks Euforia, I found a tube-gain (active) preamp did a great justice to vidar+sr1a combo, adding quite a bit of warmth and wetness (transparency and clarity lost slightly). May consider saga+ or freya+ later.
Oh, you can use sys+loki, too!
Good point…the Freya S comes in black too…damn That just made my decision harder…one without tubes it’s more stackable…plus you know…black…but the tubes…damn… or I just repurpose my balanced passive pre-amp attached to my JBLs…
Corrected…
Oh yeah, I could always wrap it… the real hero!
I have nothing to add to what @VimStory said … just didn’t want you thinking I was ignoring a direct question.
I considered putting a Freya+ between my DAVE and my Vidar’s initially, mostly as a way to both have a passive volume control for when I wanted the transparency and to have a tube-buffer in there for a bit of extra liquidity.
The only reason I didn’t is I decided to go with the Chord amps, and full Choral Ensemble stack ultimately, and having Freya+ in there would be an challenge both in terms of how to set things up and the overall aesthetic of the final system. A standard Freya S would make it say to solve the setup/configuration conundrum, but isn’t relevant with DAVE having it’s own variable output.
Plus the Freya + in the few reviews I’ve seen have been full of praise…I just wish it was black…But I also really like the idea of adding tube sound to the SR1A…
I believe you’ll be able to get a Freya+ in black in the not too distant future. According to Jason’s post at least. At launch I don’t think Freya S was available in black, either, so it’s moving along slowly.
Patience, I shall practice patience…deep breaths
I have a balanced passive pre-amp nobsound that can cover down until the black Freya + drops
i’ve been using a freya s to feed twin vidars, and that’s been working well for me.
Well, they liked my idea for a dark purple Freya + but … said it very unlikely…sad panda is sad!
Also they still haven received the black metal to make the black Freya + and no way for them to notify when it comes in…
So my wait continues…
@pavi how are you liking the sound with the Freya S? I will eventually be getting a secondary Vidar to run mono… so that will be a fun re-arrange of my space again lol. Do you have any pictures of how you have yours setup? More curious than anything else
my current setup… will likely cull most of what i have soon. the sr1a and the verite have sorted me out for good.
i do like the freya s + twin vidars feeding the sr1a.
VERY nice!
Some very cool, excellent-sounding, hardware there!
Whoa, that is quite a rack! Congrats, very nice
Yes, that is quite the setup! I’m pretty sure my wife would murderize me if I did that though…until I get my own room again, I’m stuck with keeping my corner as aesthetically pleasing as possible to the wife’s eyes lol…WAF is a thing I battle on occasion
Whoa! Epic!
Looks like you’re all set for your end of the world bunker!
