RAAL-requisite SR1a - Earfield™ Monitor/Headphone - Official Thread

Hey everyone, I hope you don’t mind me mentioning it here since there are fewer SR1a owners and they may not look at the Buy/Sell thread. I purchased the Black Dragon cable from Moon in March to try out vs. the stock cable. It is a great well constructed cable, I just did not notice a profound difference from stock and I prefer the flexibility and longer length of the stock cable. I do think this cable is very slightly more detailed, but it was subtle, and I make no statements as to the advertised characteristics of the cable. I paid $395 in March, willing to sell for $325 shipped. Please message me if you are interested to own this cable at a discount. It is out on loan now with my SR1a and HSA-1b to another member but should be back to me Friday. Thanks!

I just got these and already love them. Can anyone recommend a stand that’s well suited to them?

Good question. I wish I had an answer but I don’t. My concern is most head shaped stands compress the foam in the padding and I fear will shorten the life of those. They are also not often tall enough and the 3.5mm connectors can be stressed to 90 degrees. I have chosen to hang mine from the edge of my desk with this:

I do something similar. I found a wide hook that has adhesive and a screw to mount to the side of my desk. I prefer not to take up desk space so my Susvara and SR1A hang next to one another.

Can I DM you about Susvara and SR1a? Very curious how they compare according to someone who owns both.

Here’s what I use:

Thanks everyone for the ideas. tmarshl, do the pads touch on that stand?

I have two Brainwavz Hengas myself. They are great if your desk isn’t too thick. In my case I had to remove the adjustment disk (silver in the photo) to just barely fit. They still tighten and are secure, but the mount has only about 1.75" of range with the disk removed.

They are close but don’t touch. I open them up a bit when I place them on the stand.

I have this and love it (!) but it does not fit my RAALs - the top pads get compressed.

Maybe I did not get the B version???

Did you save the box or receipt? I can see how if you let out the headband to maximum size the wings might still touch. Or, if the pads are touching the headrest its possible you have the headband set more towards the minimum or tightest setting. Mine seems just right but note I use a different hole setting left versus right sides to get the right fit for me.

I’m using the stand for my HEDDphones instead - perfect. But you bring up a good point - the RAALs are configured for my smaller head - I can see that extending them would solve the issue - the stand would work.

I remember I got onto the Room stands from one of the posters at Head-Fi who posted some pics with the SR1a’s on it and it looked like mine does.

I’m loving the SR1a, but I’m finding them a little scratch on my perfectly coiffed [sideburn] scruff. Does anyone have a solution that doesn’t involve shaving and sacrificing my blistering sex appeal?

If you scroll up a few months this was mentioned: Co-Pilot Pad – ZMF Headphones

Thanks, yetijr, I had overlooked that. I will definitely try it out. I am not sure, though, that it will help with the scratichness on my sideburn area, though perhaps more “float” up top will reduce the friction down below. I appreciate the tip.

Finding the ideal fit and comfort take a little time with these. After a few days with mine I decide that ‘barely on’ works best for me. I have the band stretched out significantly so there’s hardly any clamping force. If that doesn’t help maybe a different fabric would work better (yes I’m talking about DIY on a $3.5k earfield monitor).
Speaking of DIY (and nothing to do with your question) I’ve added a Dayton audio bass shaker to the back of my chair for sub-bass and it adds just the right amount of sound and shake.
