I’ve been listenting to the first two Maiden albums a lot lately.
I think for my tastes I like a lot of early metal before a band broke through to their most popular, when they were maybe a little more experimental and proggy and maybe not quite as cleanly defined in one genre - Iron Maiden’s eponymous album and Killers; Judas Priest’s Rocka Rolla, Sad Wings of Destiny, and Sin After Sin; Scorpion’s Uli Jon Roth-era In Trance and Taken by Force.
It’s a funny thing but maybe because I’ve dabbled with bass but whenever I listen to this I seem to hear the bassnotes even though they are probably still left in the studio. The mind playing silly tricks.
When the big Seattle grunge thing happened I never really thought Tad got the credit they deserved, or maybe that was just me, but this is a cracking album
If you like death metal, check out old In Flames, Children of Bodom, Death and Dark Tranquillity. They’re not mainstream, but they’re true melodic death.
Children of Bodom is pure energy, I love listening to them when I need a pick me up. I’d add Goatwhore to that list for fun non-mainstream death. Their album Blood for the Master is one of my all time favorite melodic death metal albums. They change styles a bit from album to album so consistency is sometimes an issue for me, but overall a tremendous band and a gem of a find.
This discussion prompted me to look them all up.
On Maidens website they have all (well most, some they pulled ) of them including the singles…most of which I hadn’t seen. Worth checking out for fans.
There’s also some webpages with with them all and some pretty cool trivia to go with them…I’m not going to share them cause they’re loaded with adds and crap.
