Nice! I love it when they come burned in already. You get to hear all it’s glory immediately. I dont know anything about transistor radios.

Ok I caved and ordered the Lyr 3 to go with my micro idsd bl and Focal Clears. Based on your recommendation @pennstac, I hope I will like it as much as you do.

What could possibly go wrong?

Seriously, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Many happy Lyr3 owners here.

That’s great! Might ask about some tube recommendations in the future. For now, I’ll just wait and see how I like the stock ones.

Congrats @ca_leo !! I am still using the stock tube and enjoying the amp! @Wes_S @ProfFalkin @pennstac and a few others are going to have some great recommendations! In fact if you scroll up this thread you will see some they recommended!

The stock tube (JJ 6SN7) is great. I had it running while I was waiting for other tubes and I can’t say I dislike any particular trait. Its a good around performer imo. There is a circuit protection issue I’m investigating at the moment, but don’t know if its related to a different tube or the amp itself. If anyone with LYR 3 interested, play this song by Amber Rubarth “Sneak” from Sessions from the 7th Ward. There’s something in the song that triggers the circuit protection. I can replicate it consistently.

Nice. I’ve read a bit about the psvane 6sn7-uk tube. Does anyone here have any experience with it in combination with the Lyr?

Uh oh!!! Let me know what you find please @Audio_Prom

I personally don’t but I’m currently running Psvane CV181-T Mk.2. Only 20+ hrs in Burn in so I shall wait until I put enough time before giving out impression. I’m very pleased by the sound so far.

@MRHifiReviews for sure. I’ll switch back to JJ tonight. I don’t remember having this issue with JJ and youtube version of the song. I’ll do some more testing tonight.

Most likely it’s the amp :pensive: I switched back to JJ and still able to replicate it exactly at 1:49 into the track. The amp would “click” then silent for about 15 seconds and came back. What’s weird is, Youtube playback doesn’t cause this. Only the track from Spotify. Maybe it has something to do with the format and resolution. I wish I can try this using Tidal but they don’t have this track.

Track: https://open.spotify.com/track/09ysdP2Gxlr6fVFUichGf2?si=karCAARIQcGsK2hSE-HE6g

Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this.
Doctor: Then don’t do it.

Perhaps there is something specific in the track - but the Lyr3 is just an amp. Something is sending a signal to the amp. You’ve pinned it down to a single spot on a specific Spotify track. Is it the same with a different DAC in the mix? With a different device playing the track?

Have you tried to look at what the output is at that spot, maybe going into some audio editing software? I used to use Audacity (not yet out for Mac Catalina, but works on Win10) on Linux. I’m sure there are plenty of other editors that could show you what is going on at that spot.

Can confirm my system plays it fine. Only thing of note at the timestamp is a deep but distant bass thump.

Have you tried running it off spotify in browser, and also in app? Run app in Admin mode? etc.

There’s definitely something in the track that causing this. More specifically, the format which Spotify use. There’s more to LYR 3 than just an amp. Some other users on different forum had their unit serviced by Schiit and they were told the amp triggers some kind of protection circuit when it detects a big swing in sound frequency. At least from what I was able to gather so far.

It’ll be interesting to look at what the output looks like on that spot but first I want to try a different source first. Maybe download the music file and run it with a different player. :confounded:
Thanks for the ideas :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for checking it out. Same behavior with Spotify web player and just now, I tried Foobar2000, playing flac file downloaded from HDtracks. Same result. I’ll hook up the SMSL SU-8 tomorrow to see if I can take the Bifrost 2 out of the picture but right now I just want to relax  Doing more testing at home is the last thing I want to do considering this is what I do for living :exploding_head:

If anyone is looking for some really nice glass for the Lyr 3, a Friend of mine is selling his collection.

That’s insanely cheap :+1:. The Psvane tube alone cost half of the selling price.

There’s a new listing of Sylvania Bad Boy if anyone interested:

The price is slightly better than what I paid for mine.
