I’ve just finished Psvane CV181-T Mk.2 burn-in (100hrs) and I can honestly recommend this tube for LYR3. It’s not NOS but priced and performs like one. Between this and Sylvania Bad Boy if you can find one around $50 - $90 on eBay. The differences between the two are subtle. Psvane is more on the warmer side. Delivering more weight and body on lows and mids. Slightly smaller on the sound stage compared to the Bad Boy but it’s splitting hair really. Both are very enjoyable listening in my opinion.

My favorite chains (so far):
Bifrost2 - Lyr3(Psvane Mk.2) - Verite(Perf. Universe Suede)
Bifrost2 - Lyr3(Sylvania Bad Boy) - Verite(Perf. Universe Lambskin)

Another tube I’m going to try is the NOS 6CG7 RCA clear top /w side “D” getter. I’m still waiting for the 6CG7 to 6SN7 adapter shipment from China. Probably 2 more months before delivery :weary:

Is the Pvane a direct plug-in or is an adapter needed?

Nice man! I loved my Lyr 3 when I had it. Just throwing this out there, I bet you would love the Westinghouse 6SN7GTB d getter. That tube is clean sounding and has good air and opens up the stage, while staying pretty neutral. You want a bit more bass, and warmth but still well balanced, go for the “Bad Boy”.

Selling your BHC!? Oh man, no way I could ever sell my mine.

I see the bad boys at viva tubes can be had for around $75 or so…

Maybe!

Sell the Crack…on the fence still but if I get Aeolus need funds!! LOL!

If he still has them I will buy…

No adapter needed. It’s 6SN7. Same type of tube Lyr3 is using. If you’re going for it though, you’ll need a tube saver because it won’t fit all the way in due to its size.

Careful when shopping for Sylvania Bad Boy. Wes posted a good guide on how to identify one:

One finally pops up in Aus for sale but with MB module, they asking $1000 for it. Its basically that new direct from Schiit. I’ll let it sit for a while and inevitably drop in price. Though I was about to buy a Crack…

Crack and SMSL SP200
or
Lyr 3

Hmmm.

Don’t heart me @TylersEclectic … make my decision for me. You’ve heard both and have some ZMF. Decide!

I personally was going to say Crack +, but then you lost me at the SP200.

Lyr 3 is fantastic, but not at $1000.

Maybe Crack + JDS Atom / Magni 3 / anything but SP200

I like the Lyr 3 HA. The afterthought DAC - not so much.

I’ll get the Crack, has speedball, had upgraded tubes. And see how I like it from the D50S DAC.

And if I love it, I might look at changing the SP200. Its neat, small, detailed. Just…I dunno…dull maybe. Something about it.

$1000 AUD obviously, $600 USD or so. Crack is $650 AUD.

Lyr 3 is the one amp to run all. Crack I need to keep a SS for my headset and gaming at the very least.

Crack prob is the better deal out of the two. Specially with the speed ball and upgraded tube. If it’s too warm, slap the suede pads and it should balance things out. I’m guessing with D50-Crack-Perf.Universe lambskin pads chain it’ll be ok though. How’s the D50-Sp200-Perf.suede pads? I’m guessing the suede would makes it even more neutral vs the lambskin.

I have the aural memory of a deaf goldfish. But I’m liking the Universe Perf Suede. Comfort takes a step up, sounds feels a touch more nuetral, but still pleasing. One thing about Suede is it has a touch more grip/friction on your skin than the smooth leathers. So when you move your head it holds a bit better, feels a bit more secure, not important to some but is a desirable thing for me.

The SP200 had more detail than the Jot. Jot just felt smoothed out compared, and no real advantage over it, just smoothed out, touch less detail, slightly fuller bottom.

Now all you need is an actual DAC, and you’ll be set.

I agree with the comfort part. I like how it feels on my face. The slight neutral lean is exactly what I need with LYR3+Psvane Mk.2 combo too. Good synergy achieved!

D50S is ok. For its price seems to be reasonable!

Need to focus on the Amp at the moment, has the biggest impact on the sound.

I would go with the Crack as it is such a unique experience and joy to listen to. The Lyr3 is more versatile though

Do these look like Bad Boys?
