In the meantime, I’m trying 'm trying to choose a preamp that especially has that “there with the musicians” presentation/effect. To my ear, this is influenced by holographic imaging (being able to walk around the instruments in the acoustic image), texture and layered notes, engaging vocals and mids, micro-detail and plankton. I was at The Schiitr this past weekend and focused on the headphones; only the Freya + was hooked up. I might have to revisit in order to focus on comparing the preamps and various modes, including Freya + differential buffer vs Freya S Nexus.
I believe the Freya + is a hybrid tube preamp. I’m also considering the Feliks OTL preamp outputs and the ZMF Pendant transformer based preamp outputs.
