For those that want solid state and are tube curious, consider the LTA MZ2. It is solid state rectified and its ZOTL design allows for longer tube life and lower output impedance than a standard tube amp. With stock tubes, it can be underwhelming for some, but I’m quite pleased with my current tube roll - 2 12AT7s and 2 6SN7s.
See below:
I only have the leeloo and the mogwai now.
The mogwai was much more dynamic and heavy than the others. The Mz2 was a hard one to sell but I desperately needed the money and even though it was more detailed and transparent the mogwai balanced musicality and detail more to my liking. I like a less analytical sound with more vivid 3D glow and warmth but don’t want to sacrifice too much detail which seems hard to find in a component.
The mogwai makes the music sound real in a glowing and vivid way…
I haven’t observed any weaknesses yet to my ears. Is it perfect? I’m not sure one exists. It capably performs and is versatile. Does it exceed the sonic ceiling of my LTA MZ2 with select tubes? Not for me, but the Jot 2 is a winner, and I look forward to continuing to own it.
The biggest difference to date between the MZ2 and Jot 2 is that the former has more holography and depth to the stage, larger sonic images, more micro-detail, greater focus and resolution. Such should not be a surprise gi…
You bet! I’ve yet to hear the Kenzie or Pendant, but understand that the Pendant is more neutral than the Starlett (using stock tubes). I’ve seen the Kenzie and was surprised by its small footprint.
I just finished an in-home audition of the Starlett and thoroughly enjoyed it. I live in LA near DNA so want to audition the Stratus before making a purchase decision. See Starlett thread here: DNA Starlett - An Attempted Review
I recently bought a LTA MTZ2 and was able to compare it side by si…
In the interest of full disclosure, I will be returning my Jot 2. My prior observations that it performs quite capably remain unchanged, and I continue to recommend that others consider whether the Jot 2 may be the right fit in their systems.
Given the other amps that I own (with 1 other amp in the process of being built), the Jot 2 would likely get limited use, via either its balanced (vs my LTA MZ2) or SE (vs my Vali 2 and incoming tube amp) outputs. I was prepared for that when I purchased…
