What does Roon offer someone that only listens to Tidal w/ headphones at his desk?
Dsp, robust music discovery features, and additional system instability.
(This last point is contentious, where many people experienced no issues, and I have rando app crashes and hangs)
LOL at the last part! Music discovery might be the thing Iām missing. I miss the first few months after I discovered Pandora circa 2006 (before it started playing the same shit on repeat)!
Roon and I have a codependent abusive relationship. The discovery is the killer feature that I canāt quit.
Yea I can confirm that Roon Radio has given me solid recommendations over the last few months. The best discovery system Iāve used since I moved off of Spotify last year. Definitely worth the free trial, I kept my total costs down on Tidal by getting a year subscription through Best Buy for much cheaper than the usual rate.
The Roon windows GUI app leaks memory continuously, it was causing my windows server to become unresponsive intermittently.
The Server version without the GUI doesnāt seem to have the same issue, or itās greatly reduced, I swapped to that, and just run the GUI separately as needed and itās been pretty stable since.
Thank you for the tip. Itās actually the GUI that keeps crashing for me.
In fairness, I run a ton of stuff simultaneously, am a merciless user, and donāt ever look for ways for me to be friendlier to software.
(Osx, core is being run in a vm on a nas, cause itās been stable, and it hasnāt needed more horsepower yet)
I want to keep this vague but has anyone had return issues with vendors? (and this is in regards to returns for the Topping A90/D90). This setup did not work for me and support has gone dark for over a week. Wondering how long the wait should be. I know covid and how busy everyone is but at least check in this your customer once in a while especially if something is returned to you. Needed to voice my concern.
Yeah you shouldnāt be okay with that.
If I were you, Iād head over to audiosciencereview.com and call out JohnYang1997 in the public forum to help you out. In a civil manner of course. They wonāt ignore you in public.
I didnāt want to get too deep into this but my issue is with CJ at Apos Audio.
its chinese new year week and china shuts down for half the month.
This is a reseller in California
Oh sorry, I didnt see your second response. Have you tried the chat function on their site? Apos has been pretty quick to reply to me in the past.
They continued response till shortly after they provided a return label but then went dark, then I started emailing them daily for updates shortly after they went dark. I just wanted acknowledgement that they received the items. I have tracking that shows they made it to California at the address they provided on February 3rd. Iām okay with it taking two or three weeks for a return as long as I know itās there and itās in process but nothing.
Iām going to give them one more week, then Iām going to start hitting social sites and give feedback to my experience but Iād rather finish the transaction and walk away from dealing with them again.
I may be incorrect but isnāt Apos just a US-based store for Shenzen Audio? Would make sense in that case if they were also MIA for CNY.
Iām digressing here, but I could never figure out why any US/English language company would name itself āApos.ā The logical interpretation is āA p.o.s.ā ā this is not a positive connotationā¦
To be fair, Schiit also did just thatā¦
But they had many more neutral and positive slang expressions to build from:
āHot Schiitā
āThatās the Schiitā
āDonāt steal my Schiitā
āThatās good Schiitā
āWhere can I get that Schiit?ā
Apos is closely tied to one specific and usually negative expression. Toyota sells upgraded trucks with the āTRDā label too ā āToyota Racing Development.ā And thereās always engrish.com to endlessly entertain.
Donāt forget all the cars models with the letters S and X.
Or the entire Tesla lineup, for that matter.
Model S
Model E
Model X andā¦
Model Y
Is there no official Topping A90 thread?
