Well still to this day I’m in absolute love with the closed back version of that headphone. I have had the LCD XC for 7 years now. I still say “holy crap” especially since it takes EQ incredibly well.
I somewhat chase that feeling. My first taste of “hifi” was the Sennheiser HD465, until then it was purely big box store stereo’s or cheap headphones that came with the discman etc. I’ve always listened to music most of the time, however these hit me with a bug, I spent 10 years after that building a home theater system. Now I get a kick out of hearing various hardware combinations looking for that fix of something different. I’ve got a good collection, don’t get me wrong but it’s almost entirely mid-fi so it’s just a lot of side grading to change it up. I used the past 7 years to learn what I prefer and I didn’t have my “holy crap” moment again until my friend brought over his Audeze LCD-X when my entire collection was then ruined. This of course spurred an avalanche of debt to finally build my hifi setup and just so happened to time with the modhouse website being available and money accessible to get the Tungsten. I’ve been wanting to buy them ever since they released, in fact always wanted to get Argon’s before that. So I hope that will be my quintessential “HOLY CRAP” moment I’ve been looking for.
With all of that said, a pair of KPH30ci is enough for me to love a pair of headphones. I just appreciate good hardware in general, I would just like that jaw dropper some day.
*my fancy tube amp with an R2R dac has turned a couple of my headphones into pure bliss. But I got them purely for my Tungsten
I have always admired the wood finish and the design of the cupholder cover in the XC. I have to say, both the LCD-X and LCD-XC have aged really well!
