That’s cool.
I had the original Vali 2 and modded it so I could use a 6SN7 tube in it. It worked ok for an office amp but I don’t think I was getting all I could out of the tube due to the heater/current not being optimized for it.
It looks like they might have made room to roll one in now…
They’re back! Sold these after I bought my Clear…and I’ve kinda missed them since. They’re not the best headphone but I enjoy them for what they do. I really enjoy the stage and the vocal presentation. And as an added bonus they game. They game really well haha!
I had the original HD800S when the headband still said HD800 and box came with the silk (whatever it is lol) liner. I think these may be built a little better. The adjustment clicks on the headband seem more solid and the headband pad and ear pads seem just a little bit better. If the ear pads are the same then the headband pad is definitely better. I’d get a little hotspot on the top of my head with the original hd800S if not worn in the perfect spot.
Anyways, I’m glad these are back with me and I’d like to thank @taronlissimore for the sale. Much appreciated!
Yup. Just waiting to receive the monies. The UPS store claims to have not received the checks, though UPS claims they were sent on the 4th and 11th. Just a waiting game till UPS sorts things out.
It’s a very resolving DAC. I’m already thinking of buying an Atticus to pair with it. I’m using it with my RAD-0 now and thinking the combo may be too much of a good thing, but it and my mind are still in the process of melding.
I can’t speak for every amp dac pairing but when I had these before I used the smsl su-8 and darkvoice. It was an ok pairing and I was still learning (still am). The stage was good with that but I think it lacked dynamics and it was limited. My current setup with the bf2 and mz3 does this headphone more justice imo. More punch in the bass, which is needed and the stage is a little bigger and more depth for sure. I’m sure once I upgrade my dac down the line it’ll get even better.
The stage on the HD800S is pretty big on just about anything tho so I wouldn’t let your setup push you away if you’re interested. I even thought it was large with the jotunhiem but I prefer the HD800S off of a tube. If you think you may like it then give it a try. Won’t know until you try.
