What's in the box!

I love the veins in that stand. Not sure if “vein” is the right word, but hopefully you know what I mean.

The Eikon is also gorgeous. I preferred the Auteur Classic to the OG, so I bet the Eikon with the new drivers sounds fantastic.

As I recall they called these crystal radios a cat’s whisker.

The cats whisker is the wire that touches the crystal, in a “real” crystal radio.
A lot of more recent (read 1970’s or so) kits just used diodes in place of the crystals, and didn’t have a cats whisker.

How do you like the “Eikon Classics”? I’d love to have another Seattle meet so I can hear them!

Yes, there was a later kit that was even called a crystal diode. Might have been Rat Shack, or maybe Edmund’s.

I’m loving them, they’re awesome! Everything I’ve read about the Eikon is true, they slam super hard in the bass/sub-bass, more than anything I’ve heard really. Just as much as Utopia or Atrium, but something about being closed back seems to reinforce the impact of the bass.

But they are not just a bass-head’s wet dream… The mids are fantastic, and they are good for much more than rock, electronic/EDM, reggae, or hip-hop/rap.

I’ve tried classical symphony music, piano (Goldberg Variations), and classical choral a-cappella (Chanticleer). All sound really good. The timbre and tonality sounds right, and they have surprisingly good soundstage.

They probably don’t do everything an Atrium Closed does, but they sure are fun. I’m glad Zach still puts out a few. I always wanted to try one, much more than Atticus.

It seems like interest in our group that was meeting kind of waned… I would enjoy having a Seattle area mini-meet sometime this spring or summer if enough people are interested. :+1:

I’ve had these for a couple days. Initial impressions are pretty positive. MJ3 does a solid job IMO. Definitely need to use the 6v option from the DAC vs 2v.
They’re a pretty neutral headphone. I don’t have the Susvara side by side but I can see/ hear the similarities. Not as much impact as the Utopia, and doesn’t seem to have as much sub bass as the Susvara from memory but still very good overall for the price.
The stage width and depth are very good off my chain. The layering is also another standout. Timbre seems very good too.

Makes me wonder how the Sus would do off this chain….

Nice!

I’m definitely interested in them, but I don’t have an amp anymore that would drive them!

Just as well, I need more gear like I need a hole in the head…

Douk Audio VHD16. Ordered to replace a Douk Audio VU-1 Meter were the lights went out. tried to fix, but my sausage fingers really not good at tiny things and broke it even more. Clock Date and Meters, when music is playing. not a serious audio thing, but I’m just a kid at heart and like the flashy lights.
