Funny reading this now, 3 months after the original post. I did enjoy the Atrium but sold it not long ago, and did buy the VC Olive and still have it here

Do you find you prefer the VC versus the Atrium? I do, despite them being great headphones in their own right. The Atrium is a little too relaxed for my tastes.

For me personally it was less about comparing the VC to the Atrium as much as it was “I have the Susvara, I don’t really need the Atrium”.
After my honeymoon period with it and as it broke in and got a bit smoother, more relaxed and lost some details and punch, I found it sat too much in my Susvara territory and the sus is just better on all levels to my ears. I ended up selling the Atrium and getting a 1266 TC to get some real punch and slam, still evaluating that pair to make a final decision on it.

Interestingly, my burn-in experience was quite different from yours. To my ears, the Atrium got more punch and slam as it burned in, not less. Also, I’ve never heard a headphone lose details as a result of burn-in. That’s interesting that that happened for you.

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the magnesium and aluminum chassis?

Not sure about visual but you probably can tell by weighing. The magnesium is supposed to save some weight.

If you see any obvious paint chips in the chassis, you’re likely looking at a magnesium model.

If you heat magnesium with a blowtorch, it burns much more brightly.

Drinking its milk will make your insides feel better.

None of those answers help :joy:. There has to be a way when you buy a used zmf to be able to check if it’s magnesium or not.

@stormcloud64 Hard to tell by weight as all zmf headphones tend to weight a bit different so hard to feel fire out default.

Hmm…, This pair did not burn brightly so not magnesium.
I can’t wait to test all of my other headphones.
Lots more testing to do!
Thanks pennstac!

If the chassis is any color other than black, then it’s magnesium.

This still leaves the possibility that it’s magnesium with a black finish.

I don’t know if the surface texture is different between the two, all my ZMFs have the magnesium chassis.

Or you’re like Seb and get a special one-off Rose Gold Burmese Padauk Verite Open handmade by Zach himself!

Verite Closed is done in Olive.

Apropos of nothing, my favorite short-term anaesthetic, propofol (which nearly everyone except Michael Jackson loves) is ironically called “Milk of Amnesia” by healthcare professionals. Docs can be witty, too.

Very pretty!

I’ve worked with Zach on a number of special pieces over the years …

Like the first Stabilized Maple Burl Vérité Closed LTD (in purple, S/N:0001):

The blue/green one used to be mine, as well, though that was one Zach built for demo, and I’ve since sold it.

Those were literally the only two SMB models I saw, anywhere, for over a year.

Or my trio of Vérité Open LTD models … first in Pheasant Wood, which was actually just a regular order:

And then my Ziricote:

And my current set:

OMG, I am speechless! Beyond fireworks beauty! Thanks for the great pics… :star_struck:

Really still 2 of the most spectacular stabilized I’ve seen, especially the purple one. All those burls and with orange the other color it just pops!
