Cheers for the info. Dang though… saw Ziricote on the ‘current’ list and got excited about potentially being able to order a Verite instead of hoping and waiting for another LTD release.
I was teased also.

Weight of African Blackwood Eikon with lambskin pads, suede strap, Co-Pilot Protein (selected based on visuals of @TylersEclectic’s video and favoring durability). 3670 Janka hardness of this wood does increase the weight compared to the standard wood. I’m going to have to do neck exercise sets to acclimate from Sennheiser 260 grams I’m used to!
Too funny. I’m working my way to 5 sets of 5.
My Eikon is also in ABW, but I never deared to weigh it… 675, that is more than I thought. I gotta be the co-pilot protein, as mine is suede both there and the strap.
ZMF Portable due early next year. Think it was for this year, COVID probably have something to do with the delay.
Nice cans. 675 is more than I expected. I didn’t weight them without the Co-Pilot. I hesitate to do so now as it was an exercise to get the Co-Pilot placement just right. I’ll let you know if I do. I doubt the Protein weighs more than 50 grams.
My ZMFs both weigh a little bit more than I’ve seen advertised.
Eikon (camphor, Eikon lambskin pads) - listed as 480-520g in this review:
Vérité Closed (monkeypod, Universe lambskin pads) - listed as 450-475g on the ZMF site:
I tested the scales by weighing a couple of cellphones, and they both came out at exactly the advertised weight, so I think it’s the headphones and not the scales.
Both still feel comfortable, though I had to add extra padding to the Eikon’s headband. That little bit of weight difference between the Eikon and the VC does make the VC noticeably more comfortable.
Edit: I wonder if the advertised weight is without pads? I’ll have to check that next time I have the scales handy.
I admire your commitment and testing. It’s interesting that yours also weigh more than advertised.
The 80 gram difference between your version and mine, per the Co-Pilot and various woods, sounds reasonable.
It seems that part of the additional value/premium for the Verite besides the driver material and acoustics, is the lighter weight and comfort.
FYI you can find calibration weights on eBay or AMZN. I have 10g and 1kg weights that I use for my coffee brewing scale; the weights can cost more than the scale. Your cellphone method is good; others use coin denominated currency that has known weights (santitize though!).
Here they are with a sibling.
Sexy. I had remembered your earlier posts and was going to reach out to you. Mine might actually be a step-sibling of your actual Eikon as they are B-stock from shortly after you received yours. I’m a happy camper. What DAC and amp have you found to pair well? If I remember, Ares and THX?
I got the Ares ii DAC and use either the Monoprice THX DAC/AMP or the Cayin CS-55A tube amp. I love the Cayin amp it is mainly made for speakers, but has an excellent SE output as well.
The ZMF and the tube really like each-other, but hard to drive or not, I can’t get much past 10.00 on the volume
The Ares ii is such a great DAC and being into detail and soundstage, I couldn’t ask for a better DAC at this price point. I can highly rec it.
I talked to Zach about the B-stock ABW he had, but went for a new. But the pictures he mailed me of the B-stock convinced me on the wood and model. I posted a picture of them in sunlight, it is creazy how much of the grain in the wood you can see
What do you use for your Eikons?
That’s awesome how you found an amp that works for both speakers and headphones. I might be in a similar position.
I looked into the Ares ii, but doubt I’ll proceed to buy without being able to try it first and considering shipment from Singapore with no returns. I bet it sounds awesome.
I currently have a Modi Multibit and am likely to get a Bifrost 2 soon, a local purchase here in Los Angeles for me.
I have an Asgard 3 as my solid-state amp. I’m in the process of selecting and buying a tube amp. I’m currently demoing the DNA Starlett and likely to get the Starlett, Stratus, or Pendant. That 6-month wait for DNA though, so I need to figure it what tube amp to use in the interim – Feliks Echo, Bottlehead Crack with SB, or a Freya + or Saga + tube preamp.
I see about the B-stock ABW. Your pictures of the wood shining in the sunlight definitely caught my attention, and combined with being one of the harder woods and quick availability, I went for it.
I think you’re in Denmark. If you follow loudspeakers, what Danish company would you say is similar to or sounds like ZMF/Zach. Buchardt Audio maybe?
Wait, this is real?!
Does April 1 repeat on August 17?
How do you pre-order The Bev on the ZMF site
I don’t know, how do I get in “The Know”?
It was on a headphones.com stream some time ago. So if you know, you know lol.
