What a great chart. So much information that applies to all make of headphones.
Just got the VC in the mail today and experienced a ZMF headphone for the first time.
Here are my initial impressions.
Yo. WTF.
Detailed review later once I manage to extract myself from these and do something else with life.
@xgatt Welcome mate!
Do not be alarmed. This reaction is normal.
Mine initial reaction of the VO wasn’t as abrupt I guess. I was impressed by how deep the bass went and how there it was, but the rest took me a while to grow and dawn on me. That’s how I hear headphones though, I can’t demo in a store even if I had opportunity, I need a good few days to realise.
Is the T4 in the same category as a pure tube amp like the pendant and EC ZDS or more of a hybrid like the Lyr3? I’ve heard much about it and am intrigued.
The T4 is a hybrid amp. T4 sounds better than some solid state amps, like THX 789.
It’s not a normal hybrid, like a Lyr 3 or Liquid Platinum. More akin to a OTL amplifier.
You can read more from the designers and (Doug S & TomB) here. Measurements here. Order page here.
Where does one purchase the amp?
And what’s that cable?
See the post above. There is a link to a pre order page, weigh is the only way to get one for now.
It is S3-C cable from norne audio
Ironwood!!!
(my way of saying “WTF”)
I’m noticing that these cans really shine when given music with good dynamics, which to me are the natural and musical swings in volume that control the energy of a song. Classical music and Broadway are excellent at micro and macrodynamics, while well recorded violin, piano, and even metal are great at micro.
That said, any song that lacks dynamics sounds like a nothing burger on these, which is a pity considering how many of my old favorites have this problem. E.g. Open Invitation by Santana – a really rocking song musically, but wall of sound recording. The guitar, which is the highlight of the song, has no bite at all. Contrast this with anything by SRV, and suddenly that guitar comes alive.
That sounds like less of an issue with the headphones and more an issue with the audio quality/streaming quality/mastering quality?
But I’m no Torq/Antdroid/Resolve lol
That’s what I meant actually. The good recordings are so well done and addictive that poor recordings fall really short. Nothing wrong with the headphones at all. They just highlight the good and the bad much more truthfully. One could even say… with verity.
Edit: Oh and these are also really unforgiving of another crime of rock recording – compressed drums. You know, turn down the volume of drums if you want, but for goodness sake, don’t compress it and make a high hat punch with the same volume as the snare. That’s not how drums work, and it sounds terrible. The VC ain’t having none of that.
Have chance to audition the VC for a while then “swap” my VO for them, should I wish.
Anyone with both compare for me?
@torq @TylersEclectic You both have both?
I personally like the VC more than the VO… but they are so close that it really just comes down to aesthetics and if you want closed or open more.
I do think the VC has more holographic sound signature (3D) plus more “oomph” I really enjoy playing games with the VC as well if that matters to you.
Yep, I have both Vérité and Vérité Closed - two of each, in fact.
My comparison is in my Vérité Closed review, including frequency response plots.
Thanks fellow isolators.
Found your review shortly after posting.
I’m a suede pad fan, find the feel and comfort superior.
If I do swap, will have to look into which ones. Universe Suede or the Autuer (?) Suede, solid of course.
