ZMF Vérité C - Closed-Back Dynamic Headphone - Official Thread

Agreed, I plugged my VO into an iPod and played music through the night for about a week, and used it for listening during the day. Started with pink noise and then moved onto metal, reggae and punk/indie rock, just to provide some variety. It really helped.

I just threw some Shostakovich, on repeat, at mine!:grin:

Do they have a Russian accent now?

Ha. No. I just picked the music that had the most dynamic range according to Roon.

Man, trying out all the different pads has been awesome. I know I mentioned it in my original impression post, but really the level of versatility and customizability you get with the pads is great; I highly recommend trying out as many as you can if you get the chance!

So far I’ve tried Eikon Lambskin pads, Auteur Hybrid pads, Universe Hybrid pads, Auteur Lambksin pads, Verite Lambskin pads, and BE-2 Lambskin pads–all off them bring something unique to the table. :headphones:

This is probably the main reason I’ll be ordering the VC. I love the possibility of changing the way a headphone sounds by changing a physical property of the headphone, it feels way more interactive than setting a digital EQ (even though doing both is probably a fair route to take).

Oh yeah, it’s definitely a great part about the experience, and really let’s you get different hues of sound whilst also honing it in and making it your own. I personally enjoy using the different pads in conjunction with EQ so that I get their different presentation characteristics, without worrying about things like “ooh, treble is kinda hot on this pair of pads” y’know?

Big time! It’s nice to be able to forego the “all or nothing” type of mentality and use EQ to smooth out the rough edges of an otherwise enjoyable experience. Can’t wait to hear your full thoughts on the VC, especially in regards to which pads end up being your top pick (if it’s that straightforward).

Yeah originally I was going to publish the review this week, but I wanted to take more time to experiment and try out as many pads as I could… So expect that review to drop next weekend

Hey, the more experience you have with them the better. I always appreciate an un-rushed approach

Wow that’s beautiful

Thanks, as are yours which is the only other similarly colored blue-green set I’ve seen. They’re a bit more muted than in the pic. The right cup could make a set with your right cup. I like though that rather than making them too matchy matchy Zach went with 2 matching, but significantly different cups on most that I’ve seen. It’s like getting 2 works of art instead of 1.

I was thinking to ask you ‘where it is, you already said two weeks ago’ etc fake-upset rambling. Good to know it’s coming now and defitinely the pad rolling in the meantime will be excellent add for the review. I had solid Verite , Auteur and previously owned Universe pads. Verite’s we’re a bit meh for the linearity, Auteur pads you know and as said by many the Universe pads give the middleground in FR etc. Bass gets a bit of power and Auteur pads strangely sound a bit wider but some instruments come much closer. I like that the Uni pads are more far out when thinking the whole picture.

Pad rolling is part of the ZMF appeal and maybe I’m a tweaker as much as the next person. But maybe we should be careful about being too original and creative with pairings. Zach tuned, optimized, and selected certain pads for a reason. Granted, different ears may hear things differently and what matters most is what sounds good to you - but query does it really sound good to you if so far against the grain.

These cans great for movies/tv? I really love my focal clears for that since dialogue sounds so “clear!”

What is the pad that produces the best bass? Tried main pad that comes on VO and it had zero bass.

Come on man, it can’t have zero bass.
A few clarification questions:

  • do you have a good seal, and fit from the headband to pad gimbal?
  • what amp, dac, and source material in your audio chain?
  • what headphone is the standard for bass for you?

The dude @BondDaBoom is a bass head. Zero bass by his standards is different than actual zero bass. LOL

He’s got a great rig, I’m sure that he meant that the bass wasn’t satisfactory for him.
