ZMF Vérité C - Closed-Back Dynamic Headphone - Official Thread

Hope it works out for you.

Congrats, hopefully it gives you what you need. The Molecule Elite is the cable I use for most of my headphones.

DHC makes really good adapters too, so you can use the cable for other headphones. And Peter makes an excellent XLR–> 1/4inch adapter too.

O :star_struck:

Those are nice. Does he make 4.4mm pentagon (male) to XLR female ??

It’s usually the opposite (female to male) and I believe he does. You can find it under short adapters on his website

Ok friend. Umm? What is Peter’s website?
I’ll check it out.
Thanks man.

Mine came with Auteur lamb as stock, but I really prefer the BE2’s.

I have the one on the left in that photo and it’s really good from a functional perspective. The sonic advantage over a wired adapter is subjective, but theoretically, having no wire between the 2 connectors should deliver a purer signal to the headphone.

If you did want to buy one, I’d recommend emailing DHC first and ask if they will apply the 15% Black Friday discount, since the sale ended yesterday.

Looks like the BF discount is still in effect.

@Torq … This makes sense and I am now curious as to the difference(s) if any? The above solution has been thought about as well… but that would be a bit much to schlep around. I would seriously pull the trigger on a N30 before I did this I think. But great thought in terms of sound! Something you said earlier that really made a ton of sense to me was in regards to the headphones.

I REALLy dig the headphones I currently have- the Sony Z1R’s( w/aftermarket cable) 109 Pro and my Lirics. Now the Lirics is definitely my least favorite out of the 3, however, there is amazing synergy pairing these with an Arctic Cables Magnus cable… It really changed the sound for me… for the better. Although I would like to sell them tbh, Being in Mint cond.,I don’t think I would get a good price for them…Nevertheless, my point being, the ONLY headphone that I truly long for and would completely finish things for me in THAT category would be the Verite Closed. I listened to it on my SP2000 and my Kann Max and Jesus H!!! It is the sound I think I have been seeking most of my adult life (LOL!) The rich depth, the 3-D holographics, the bass the musicality of everything is insane! These really sounded great and didn’t need a tube amp or anything more than the DAPs I brought to CanJam. Now, I do have a simple Topping Nx7 that is a VERY transparent and capable portable amp that has very nice, solid power that I use with my SP2000 and this gives me that “added power boost” which is nice! But I have to say, after our talks and much consideration, my DAPs are just fine for now and probably will be until the N8iii “emerges” hahah… in the next 2 years or so. In the meantime, I have been seriously searching for a Verite Closed back- pre-owned scenario.
I LOVE that headphone and it would compliment my Z1R’s nicely. I did see a pair of B-Stocks Burls that looked solid. They had a very thin/small crack near the connector plug on the cup. this was repaired/stabilized at ZMF. The unit wood may be slightly mismatched, hence the B-Stock. Which to me is not that noticeable or a big deal. Includes 3 extra pads, extra suede headband/strap + an upgraded cable OFC cable. Roughly around 200 hours on them. Excellent working condition(as I am told) Sounds great and I may make a play for them in the next 24-36 hours. @Torq , are there ANY watch outs here in terms of potential problems etc. I spoke w/Kevin several times at ZMF and he said everything seems to check out fine in terms of package, B-stock, etc. I know you have the VC’s and you would be the one to know/ask. Btw… I believe the ask is for around $1600 all in. Seems slightly on the “cheaper side” which has/had me skeptical a bit. But his rep is spotless and he’s sold other hi-end amps and head phones in the past (Schiit, Abyss etc) What are your thoughts here regarding all of the above…

I’m struggling to find a specific question there …

I used to own two sets (at the same time). Serial numbers 001 (Purple/Gold) and 002 (Sea Green/Blue) of the Stabilized Maple Burl sets:

While they remain my favorite closed-back headphone, I have since sold both sets (one a couple of years ago, the other fairly recently) as I no longer need nor use closed-back headphones at home, and I just use AirPods Pro 2 when on the go.

IF I was going to buy another closed-back the Vérité Closed would be my default choice right now, but given how much I love the Atrium I would want to spend some time with the closed-back version of that before pulling the trigger.

Without knowing anything about the seller, and not having seen the headphones in question in person, I can’t really comment on either specifically.

I can say that my Sea Green/Blue Vérité Closed had a small lateral crack/split on the perimeter. This was addressed in terms of wood stability before I received them. That meant it never got wider or longer, but doesn’t change the fact that it is visible if you look for it.

I can also say that I, personally, would not buy a headphone with wooden cups that had a crack/split in them unless I knew the manufacturer had either treated or “okay’d” it. But that’s just me.

With natural woods, if any of the grain or burls are visible, they’re never going to be a perfect match (they weren’t with either of mine). This is just as true, maybe more so, with stabilized or epoxy-loaded wooden cups. If the mismatch is in the density of the coloring/stain that’s might be a bit more obvious.

My Atrium’s cups are quite different in terms of grain, burls/epoxy etc … though due to the random nature of woods in general when you see them in person it looks like they’re cut from different parts of the same block (they’re really hard to photograph):

$1,600 doesn’t seem unusually low for a used, B-stock, Vérité Closed at this point.

And … that’s all I can say on any of that since I don’t know who the seller is (nor would necessarily know anything about them if I did), what constitutes “rep” here, and haven’t seen the actual headphones being sold in person.

Oh … if there is going to be an N8iii, I doubt it’ll take that long to appear. I would think late this year, early next - and if not, then the N8ii’s successor may have a different designation altogether.

At the same time, this isn’t based on any special information - just an educated guess - based on it not seeming terribly likely that Cayin would come up with this new Gen 3 NuTube circuit, along with the ability to do things like “Hyper” mode … and then ONLY use it in a 399 unit run of DAPs.

WOW! Those VCs are INSANE!!! They look like works of art!! Amazing!!
The Atrium open look incredible as well… simply BEAUTIFUL!!

ZMF was responsible for the work on these VCs. Sealed, repaired and stabilized. This was actually verified by my contacts at ZMF so I don’t think there’s a worry there. cosmetically, it is not horrible in my opinion.

So here is the the complete package, which I believe there is some flexibility to that previously mentioned number…

So question for you…I know you now have the Atrium Open, but I’m sure you have spent time with the Atrium closed back as well… What are the BIG differences between the Atrium closed and the Verite closed? I did listen to both at CanJam with my Ak Portables and it felt like the VC had more “dynamics” and life to them, just a little more than the Atriums, which sounded great as well. BOTh used the standard ZMF copper cable. The Holographic seemed more prominent in the VC’s and that is a super nice sound signature.

Oh… my friend, I hope you are right!! I can see the logic, 1000% and I hope it’s correct. That’s why I’m more than likely going to wait for that to release and I’m sure it’s going to sound INCREDIBLE!! Hopefully near, VERY near the N30!

If so, I wouldn’t be worried about it.

Beyond that, I don’t know the seller, haven’t seen/heard the actual headphones in question, so can’t say anything more than if all is above board (I’ve no reason to assume it isn’t) it seems like a decent enough deal.

Not enough to say anything more than a) it’s an Atrium and b) it’s closed-back.

I’ve not even been considering closed-back cans in the last two and a half years, so haven’t spent any energy or time listening to/evaluating closed-back cans (i.e. no critical listening; just random/occasional track-or-two stuff if/when convenient).
