As people from the other site say, “it’s worth the wait”. Of course that means nothing to you until you get it but you’ll know. In keeping with the topic, my Verite Open through the SW51+ is my daily driver.

What does the group recommend for transporting my Vérité closed? I’m going to visit a few audio shops (Gig Harbor Audio as an example) and I’m going to bring my VC in case I’d like to listen to something. The wooden case really isn’t practical, so I’m looking for something to use for the occasions I’d like to take them somewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps ask Zach if he’d sell you a Seahorse case.

Someone with a Seahorse case might also be willing to trade or sell you one.

Great idea. I just emailed Zach & Bevin to see.

I live across the bridge from gig harbor. I could loan you a seahorse for a day or two.

You can just buy them. They come with the same gridded “pluck foam” that ZMF uses.

Edit: Nevermind, @eric75 beat me too it.

Stupid question here that’s probably been answered, but I’m reaching the end of my tether. Is there some trick to getting the earpads back ON my VO’s? I removed the stock ones to try out the other pair - now I can’t get either pair back on - my fingers are not cut out for this! Sure wish he’d used magnets like Emypereans do…

Yeah, while the pad replacement isn’t “hard” to do, it is annoying. It would be nice to have a magnet or easier system but this probably keeps costs down and does work. Once you get the hang of it it’s doable relatively quickly but it’s not something I’d want to do regularly.

I’ve also cut myself changing pads on these things.

Thank you, Roark!!!

Wow @mfadio , thanks for the offer. I found a solution for my trip today (I’m up near Everett). I’m looking for a more permanent solution, so I’m leaning towards buying a Seahorse 430 case from Amazon or directly from ZMF - if price is right (kinda like the idea of the logo on the case).

In addition to allen wrenches, perhaps pad levers similar to bicycle tire levers should be a part of every ZMF kit.

Hi there:

Recently bought a pair of Pheasantwood Verite Open w/ BE2 am not sure if it’s sounding the way I was hoping. This is driven by a Vinnie Rossi LIO hybrid w/ a tube stage (headphone amp is solid state w/ 2W nominal 32 ohm) 4-pin XLR, Wywire Red. Comparison is a pair of Audeze LCD-2 rev 2 (2013 era). The LIO may not be designed as a pure headphone amp, but it’s does have a dedicated HPA circuit and the input stage can be direct-heated triode which I am planning on upgrading to (puts PX45 or 300B in the DAC/phono output).

Understandably we all have different preferences and gear, but what I’m hearing on the VO when compared to my LCD2 is:

  • Timbre and tonality is definitely better, most notably in vocals and individual instruments,
  • Significantly less macrodynamics but more microdynamics. This most affects the “swell and build-up” of a crescendoing symphony finale, or the end of a chorus.
  • Slightly less separation of instruments
  • Slightly more smeared sub-bass. Bass still kicks but not as hard and seems more rounded.
  • Slightly more detail, most notably midrange and treble,
  • An overall more closed-in, center of my head sound, which is perceived as veiled rather than expansive.
  • A different coherence of the music. The LCD2 puts everything out there on a platter. The VOs seem to try and weave it together a bit better.

At one point I wanted to see if nearby Seattle experts can listen to these cans and tell me if they might be broken (aka “Is this how they’re supposed to sound??”). The lack of macrodynamics and closed-in sound are what bothers me the most; it robs large classical performances or rock band songs of their atmosphere and excitement. Female vocals in smaller bands (e.g. Diana Krall, Mary Chapin Carpenter) are gorgeous sounding and more organic than the Audezes. I’m waiting for a pair of Verite pads to see if this might help the issue. Did try the Universe pads but they made the sound somewhat unfocused and smeared.

I spoke w/ Zach Mehrbach, Vinnie Rossi, Justin (@ A&S), Torq, and a few others, to understand if I might have a system match issue. They all suggest my LIO w/ 2W @ 32ohm nominal should be more than adequate, but I’m wondering if this small amplifier module might not have enough headroom to truly allow these to shine. I’m assuming it’s not the Wywires that’s the problem.

Have you guys ever heard VO exhibiting these symptoms with a non-ideal system match? If this is a matter of system match then I can put a headphone amp in the path (e.g. Pendant, A+S, GS-X mini, etc) to see if this fixes the problem. Either that or I’m more planar oriented, e.g. Rosson Rad-0s?

Really am looking forward to a future local Puget Sound get-together so maybe someone can show me what these are supposed to sound like in a better system.

Thanks.

Welcome and nice gear. The symptoms you describe are foreign to me.

While likely not the solution, what pad materials have you tried and prefer?

The Verite have a longer break in period. I would be especially concerned if you’ve exceeded 300 hours.

Good luck.

Should be enough juice to drive your cans. as in a review on 6Moons they were driving HifiMan HE-1000.
