ZMF Vérité - Open-Back Dynamic Headphone - Official Thread

yeah, my Ironwood order is still in progress. prefer the color over the blackwood. my fave is def cocobolo due to its color light/dark variation and pronounced grain. but, the blackwood w/ the polished steel is quite stunning contrast.

I just pulled this trigger. Had to. I just had to.
A blacked out VO is just too stunning to pass up.
Regret would follow me to the grave…
Shame would wash over my ancestors…

These are sweet. If I were to get a VO again it would be stainless hardware with blackwood. Love the look. Blacked out would be sweet too.

I have spent a solid part of the last four months on this thread, in learning and anticipation of my first ZMF purchase. I’d really love to thank @ZMFheadphones for what has been the most pleasant customer experience. The live streams and reviews of @TylersEclectic, MRHifiReviews, and Resolve have helped me flesh out an understanding and form my own opinions on the hobby… I apologise for the scrappy pixel snap but excitement has taken hold. The important question now is when do I pull the trigger on the Pendant and what DAC to get!

Congrats on a beautiful headphone, and nice pic!

Kinda look like a darker shade of my ziricote. Looks like a great alternative to those who have missed out on the ziricote.

Hi Andrew, i remembered you wanted to try the Auteur pads on the VO. Please try it. I just have (fenestrated lambskin) and the soundstage is absolutly insane! It definitly needs EQ with these pads though. I used your preset for the be2 suede pads and it sounds pretty good to my ears, but not perfect. Wish there were measurements of this combo to dual in the EQ

A fantastic thread which has prompted me to place my order for the Verite Open Back. I’ve been listening to headphones longer than probably some of you have been alive…ha, ha. I wish my hearing was up to the golden ears I had when I was younger but can’t stop the clock and with age hearing changes. None of that, though, diminishes the pleasure of listening to good headphones.

I’m fortunate that I can buy any of this stuff but I balked at 6k for the Susvara. Will see what happens once I receive the Verite’s. My front end is an Ayre QB-9 (20) which I have no intentions of replacing. As for amps I have a Schiit Mjolnir - now discontinued. Lots of power and very clean sounding. I also have Bryston’s headphone amp which I like a lot. I have an original pair of HiFiMan He-6 headphones that although a little bright are my favorite phones for now. I also have an Audeze LCD-3 but its dry sound needs EQ to bring it to what I want to hear.

Thanks for all of the great posts which have really motivated me to revisit my lifelong love affair with music and headphones.

I placed an order for a Vérité Open on the 20th and am beyond excited to get them on my ears! I’ve been listening to the Focal Clear MG and HD800S the last few weeks and am wondering which headphone has the most similarities with the Vérité. I could see it having elements of both. The toughest option at checkout for me was the black or copper hardware haha. Both look so great with Sapele. I chose black but then sent an email on the 22nd asking if switching to copper was possible and am waiting to hear back. Curse my indecisiveness.

In my experience with Bevin and Zach and with my own indecisiveness, changing should not be a problem pre-assembly

If you’ve been using the hd800S for a bit you may need a little adjustment time with some brain burn in. It’ll also depend on the pads you use. I preferred the universe pads on the VO. I went from hd800s to Verite and it took a little getting use to the new signature.

Copper will look sharp, but adds to overall weight.

I went from black to brass on my Desert Ironwood VOs and it wasn’t a problem. Took a handful of days for Bevin to get back to me.

It fascinating how well the VO scales, the better the gear the better it sounds. It’s a fantastic headphone and an amazing achievement by ZMF!

In comparison, my HD800S (which I also love!) very clearly becomes the bottleneck when you pass a certain level.

All IMHO of course

That’s my exact combo of favorites as well. I love them both, but the Verite is simply the best.

I was hesitant to accept this as it had been constantly mentioned throughout several threads, and it took my own upgrades to finally get it.

What Amp/DAC did you experience the Verite epiphany with, what you started with and what you ended with?

Wow, what a great question! This will probably sound odd but it’s actually with my two channel setup.

I use a Chord Hugo 2 with the VO and HD800S for my “focused” listening. I have the following amps: Feliks-Audio Echo, a Brockmeister and a modded Headamp Gilmore Lite Mk2 + PSU. I like to be able to sit/stand/lie when doing my more focused listening so most of the time the Hugo 2 is just connected to my phone.

In my two channel setup I use a Chord Hugo TT. It’s Chord all the way for me . Sometime ago I decided to add a Chord M Scaler as an “incremental” upgrade of the DAC setup in my two channel system. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be anything but “incremental”!

Anyway, I also decided to try my headphones with the “upgraded” TT. The music coming from the VO sounded even better than with the Hugo 2, just amazing! (The HD800S was more of an incremental improvement.) So the “epiphany” comes from hearing the VO with the M Scaler and Hugo TT.

What does your path look like?

I’m just away from a VC to combine with my TT2/M Scaler combo. Can’t wait - the Aeolus is perfect with this pairing so I can’t imagine what it’ll do for the VC.

It’ll be fantastic :grinning:!
