The behavior with Bluetooth and the Dongle at the same time was a design decision, it’s been raised before.

I ended up unpairing it from my portable devices because it would shut off game audio whenever I got notifications on the portable devices, and that was just annoying.

There is another issue where Side tone causes continuous crackle in very quiet environments, again I just turn it off.

I just treat them as a set of headphones that can only be connected to one thing at a time, the use case for the existing behavior seems to be listening to music from one device, and expecting a call on another, which is just not something I do.

They are a great sounding (for the price) set of closed back headphones, with a Mic, but the whole multi connectivity thing is a total fail for me.

It’s just gorgeous! I would really appreciate it if you would share the project!

There’s a video that YouTuber Gadgetry Tech did that explains that the newest firmware changes the sound for the worse; he provides measurements to show the changes. He also explains the process to flash back to the better sounding firmware. I highly recommend checking it out. Start at about 7:50.

I bought the Maxwells, not for gaming, but that they were planars with the added bonus of BT, and on the affirmation that they were very good sounding by my friend Chris Ishida, a fellow member of the LA/OC Audio Society. I listened to them at CanJam 2024 and again at our meeting at the Audeze Factory in LA. After purchase, i was quite pleasantly surprised at their fine sound. A bit less open sounding than open-backed planars such as my Hifiman 4XXs from Drop and my other friend’s Monolith 1060s.
The bass is MUCH to my liking in that it plumbs the depth to below 30Hz. Soundstaging and imaging are about as good as I have heard on headphones. Being primarily a speaker kind of guy, I’ll say that they aren’t on the same playing field as My Spendor S3/5s, but compete well with other headphones i own and others that I’ve spent time listening to.

Their outside surface finish is impeccable in that I have bashed into things and there is no evidence that that had happened. I will admit that i haven’t come close to mastering all the controls on them but my daughter is very adept with equipment setup and operation, so I am well advised by her. Another great feature is the hella long battery life. It’s a KEEPER.

I tried out my Maxwell with the ZMF leather pads that I bought a few months ago. In addition to the improved feel of the pads (vegan pads feel cheap…I really don’t like them), I like the improved tonality of the headphones now. The bass feels more elevated and the treble has some improved emphasis and clarity…so, I guess it’s giving a bit more of a (relative) V-shape to the signature. Worth checking out!

They are still on sale at $59.99:
