Confessions thread

We all harbor things we would rather not tell others about. Maybe you are a closet bass head, you think Grados have a balanced sound, you think most headphones sound the same etc.

Tell us about your dark head-fi secrets. Let it out and all will be forgiven.

I sometimes enjoy my Auteur on the iFi hip-dac, with X-bass on…

Sacriledge! I know…

FiiO A3 seems to do just fine with my Elegia and HD6XX.
Also bass boost.

Sometimes I plug IEMs or headphones directly into the iPhone or iPad, without using a DAC/Amp.

I think my Sony MDR-7506’s sound about the same as my Focal Stellia’s that cost 16 times more (but they don’t look as nice) :joy:

I listen to really bad music by audiophile standards - like pop music, alternative rock, indie - a lot of it mastered terribly. I like Jazz Fusion too.

I hate classical music, Diana Krall, and Jamie Collum. I dislike old Jazz - like I respect Miles Davis and Coltrane and appreciate their abilities but I’ve never once felt a desire to listen to their music. I really hate Frank Sinatra.

I often throw on Youtube playlists to listen to songs because I can’t be bothered to set up the playlists myself in Spotify, Tidal, Roon etc…

In the six months since getting Roon I’ve only saved a few albums. Currently at 23 total. That’s my entire library.

I spend less time than I should listening carefully or critically to music.

All too often, at least recently, my limited concentration span fails to do justice to my setup. For this reason, I’ve not listened to classical music enough in the past couple of months.

Being tired in the evening doesn’t quite cut it as an excuse.

I once listened to a Taylor Swift song on repeat for 5hrs.

I havent quit audio yet. My 2021 resolution lasted 3 hours.

I once hit a man in Dearborn, Michigan. A hit and run. I hit him and just kept on going. I don’t know if he’s alive or dead… but I’m sorry. Not a day goes by I don’t see his face.

I think all headphone cables sound the same.

Sometimes, I use the speakers at the back of my gaming monitors and think they sound pretty good

Bless me Headphone Fathers, for I have sinned:

  • I prefer the 2018 Harman OE target over the 2013 Harman OE target. Sometimes I even add 3db to the 105hz low pass
  • Sometimes I listen to my music from my iPhone with my Airpod Pros and I’m perfectly satisfied with the sound
  • I think Fear Inoculum is the best Tool album and I can pontificate for hours on why
  • I don’t like the Hifiman Sundara

Another confession I have to make:

I prefer the R70x over HD650. Please forgive me.

I don’t like the HD 600, 650, 6XX, or 660s. Absolute blasphemy.

I also spend most of my time in the office now with headphones in the vicinity of my head with music playing but the headphones are not on my ears.

This might be my favorite thread of 2021 so far lol!

I’ve re-bought some albums because they were available in hi-res…
I don’t love the Sundaras…
I thought the Audioquest Nightowls were the best headphones at the time.

@Resolve is getting the banhammer ready! Haha. Don’t worry, my ears are also not inclined to Hifiman’s sound. I did enjoy the Susvaa though
