My pair is scheduled to deliver today. Very excited to check it out! I have Louis Cole’s latest nothing album ready to go for it
I got mine yesterday but I’ve only had about an hour of listening time on them. So far I am impressed: good tonality, excellent dynamics, and a wiiiiiide soundstage. Drum hits are as sharp as a planar and I’m not sure I’ve ever heard hard panned instruments sound so far away - in a good way.
They sound a little hot in the treble to me, maybe in the 4k-5k range. Maybe because of this they also sound quite good at low volume levels. It’s not a problem per se just not my preference. Hooking them up to my Schiit Folkvangr smoothed that out quite a bit and added some bass heft.
It’s still VERY much the honeymoon period but I could see preferring these over my Sennheiser HD800S frankly.
Interesting, and awesome!
I want to see some pics please.
Along with the soundstage review before me, I don’t think I’ve had a more noticeable experience hearing separation out of the box as I did with my pair of Omegas.
Understanding the ethos of the project my only build quality feedback would be just how crazy the cups spin on every axis. Definitely hold these by cups and not with the strap or it’ll feel like you’re wrangling unruly twins before you can set them straight over your ears. All worth the weight and sound quality though. And I’m sure there can be some 3D print addition to manufacture the swivel stop somehow
Not the most photogenic headphones, I think even DMS would agree. This pic also shows another issue with the cup swivel when you hang them on a stand. However I’m thinking if a swivel stop is added, then they won’t rotate flat for transport and I’d rather have that feature and deal with this than have a swivel stop.
EDIT: Maybe some kind of rubber grommet to resist swivel a bit more? That might make them uncomfortable though.
How big is the cup, and the opening in the pad for your ear? Is there plenty of room? How’s the comfort?
That stand cracks me up!
Very big cups with plenty of room for my ears. In fact the cups are big enough that the cables bind against the desk on that stand unless I allow the cups to rotate. I would say comfort is excellent. My ears get a bit warm, but this is summer in Arizona and like a fool I’m running a tube amp. Certainly no worse than any other headphone I own and better than most.
I do get a bit of clamp at the top of my ears after 15 mins or so. This is a very common problem for me as I have a hat size 7 5/8 aka XL. The pads are angled and I find that pushing the headband back on my head a bit so that the top of the pad is thinner helps with this. It may also help if the headband is stretchable. I’m not sure how far to push that yet though. I don’t want to break it.
Also have to give props to the cable. Very nice! Just the right amount of bling. Doesn’t bind or tangle or cause microphonics.
God I have that same exact headphone and color! It was an early step down the road to Perdition I find myself on with audio and headphones!
The K712 Pro is still a good headphone, a bit fragile but comfortable and soundwise still recommendable.
You’re right it probably is a K712 Pro, I thought it was the Massdrop K7xx, which looks nearly identical in red. @AudioTool can say definitively here!
It is quite possible that this is a mass drop product.
Here in Europe it makes no sense to buy these “cheap copies” of European Brands, because;
In addition to import duties and taxes, they are sometimes more expensive than the original products, 6xx for example.
It’s orange so you’re right @Lothar_Wolf, it’s the K712 Pro. It was my daily driver for some time. And that’s a specific use case that it fits well. Must be lightweight, low clamp, spacious ear cups, breathe well, etc. Sound is secondary since I’m not focused on the music. I still think it sounds pretty good with some EQ tho
Problem is the right cup started to creak. Nothing worse than a creak, no matter how mild, whenever you turn your head while you are working at a computer.
Hi. Any update on the batch that was waiting on listenmore cables?
Quick Project Omega update for those still waiting from Batch 1 from DMS.
You should have received an e-mail from Headphones.com this morning as well but if you didn’t just shoot an e-mail over to info@headphones.com with which option you’d like to go with and our team will take care of you!
I love how he has repurposed the misfit foam box inserts!
Are the OG pads going to be for sale at some point? I’m curious enough to buy them.
I figured this video might be interesting to those that have been following Project Omega and also those that are curious what the actual costs are for a boutique manufacturer to produce small batch runs of headphones.
I was a bit disappointed with the shipping delay, but I have to say the communication and care for the customer is top-notch with you guys. Most companies would be radio slient during a delay, and almost no company would offer some extra pads as compensation. I haven’t ordered from headphones.com much in the past, but I’ll certainly be a customer again in the future. Thanks and can’t wait to try these headphones!
