I’ve got to agree with both you and @ValentineLuke. Headphone.com dudes offer some great deals and the return policy is second to none.

Hey Guys,

Seems these could be out of reach now, my kid is due the end of feb so this was going to be my last hifi purchases for the foreseeable future, I was hoping on finding a refurbished pair or b-stock, having a hard time locating a pair.

I think I will just keep my clears and find another closed back for around 1300 or lower if this is the case.

I know nothing with compare to the Stellia, but do you guys have any recommendations for a closed backs or even open back around that ballpark that has similar sound signature.

Note: I already have the Eliga, I could grab the HD820s if I return these.

I much prefer the Elegia over the hd820, but to each their own. I think Stellia is also a great choice but it does get pricey. Not much else to choose from at the high end I’m afraid. There are some ZMF closed backs worth checking out but I actually think the Elegia has better technical performance than the Eikon and Atticus. So it depends what you require.

I had Denon D9200 before the Stellia. Another fantastic headphone in your price range.

Is the 9200 less v-shaped than theFostex 900mk2? That would be another possible option.

Hey, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I love your reviews, I was just watching your Aeon Flow Open videos. After hearing your thoughts, it sounds like a steal for 500 on Drop.com. (If you can live with the Aeon 2 being out).

Dude your attention to detail in your reviews is great, thank you.

Thanks for the kind words. Keep in mind that the drop version is semi-open. And the original closed back has a very different sound signature, likely not what you’re looking for.

Your welcome, sorry I should have elaborated about the Aeons, I am aware they are the open back versions, thank you. I had just meant after watching your reviews on the headphone it seems like a steal for the price tag.

However, I am interested to see more reviews on the two new versions of the Aeon. Dan Clark Audio seems to focus on being more analytical from everything I have read and heard. Stellia I am sure still blows them out of the water. My Focal Clears are probably one of the best headphones I have heard to date, so I can only imagine how the Stellia sounds.

You talk about tone balance in some of your reviews. How it makes a headphone enjoyable to listen with and how it’s not just focused on doing, detail, soundstage, etc… extremely well.

How is the balance on the Stellia? Would you say aside from being a really good headphone technically, do you find enjoyment in listening to it as a daily? Or, do you prefer the more mid focused headphones you have spoken about in the past?

What type of mood or music would you be listening too, when you pickup this headphone.

Thanks man.

I don’t personally own the Stellia (unfortunately), I just got it on loan for review. But to me it’s the best closed-back experience precisely for its technical abilities. For tonal balance, it’s decent on the Stellia, but there is a bit of bass emphasis that’s slightly too elevated for me. When I talk about tonal balance, I mean where frequency ranges aren’t dramatically in opposition to one another, and that they instead complement each other for how these frequencies redound to features of the music you’re listening to. So for example, cymbal hits have a primary tone but then a splash and sizzle. The primary tone falls in a different frequency range than the splash and sizzle, and when they’re out of balance from one another, it pulls the cymbal hit apart (or muffles it, depending on which side is unbalanced). Good tonal balance to me means the headphone is coherent throughout its frequency ranges, and where those frequency ranges complement one another for music features.

At the same time I also find that headphones with crazy technical capabilities like the Stellia are able to cheat a bit and get away with things less capable headphones can’t.

The Stellia is a solid all rounder though for most genres. It’s maybe a bit too laid back for people looking for more diffuse field tunings for jazz music, but I think then it also wouldn’t be as much fun.

I’m currently evaluating the Stellia again for a closed-back shootout (to be posted soon), and I’m just reminded of how good this thing is. Truly an amazing headphone. Not only does it have top-tier detail capability, it’s comfortable and usable for long sessions.

Shootout… ZMF VC maybe? :eyes:

If there was a thread for requested reviews, would it be something you’d take into consideration?

I personally would really like to know how this headphone compares to some of the open back offerings around the 1500-2500 price range, if being a closed back was out of the equation how would the Stellia stack up.

On what I have read, It does sound like this pretty much beats anything around its price point, for speed and detail, regardless if its a closed back or open back.

My fear is that I would have found a better value in owning the Elgia and the Clear based on my preferred sound signature vs owning just the Stellia. On the other hand, the Stellia could be so amazing that I wouldn’t care. I suppose the only way to tell is to buy the dame headphone already, lol

Worst case I can always return it and get the Elgia and Clear again.

Yeah but it’s tough to get some of that stuff. I’d love to review everything though.

Sweet. I know subscribers of many reviewers are often willing to send in headphones for review purposes. I’m sure many of us here would be willing.

Regarding your initial question, if I could have the Stellia in an open-back at a lower price point… I’d take it over the Clear.
